B20 gearbox on B16a2 engine?
Hi! I was just wondering if anyone here has tried to fit a b20 gearbox on a b16 engine, or if anyone know for a fact that it fits or don`t fit. Would like to have 4wd on my b16..And while we`re on the subject, how strong is that gearbox and how much power could the driveline handle? Thanks in advance for all answers!
Regards
Chris!

haha this is a joke right? I hope your ready to get flamed.
well i'll help you out since I'm not a newbie-slayer.
*yes all Bseries tranny are interchangeable.
*B20/LS tranny on a stock B16a2 will be really slow, trust me. It's about as fast as a stock auto integra LS. Why ?...simply because the LS/B20 gears are too long for this tiny motor and because the B16 does not make enough low end torque to pull the the car with long gears. It it was a B16a2 turbo , then it's a different story.
*B20 mostly come in auto. finding PARTS for a 5speed CRV drivetrain is gonna be hard. The CRV drive train honestly looks weak , and if i were to put a GUESS on the hp limits of the tranny, shafts, axels,ect.....about 200whp MAX. But i could be wrong.

Re: B20 gearbox on B16a2 engine? (Charlie Moua)
Thanks for the reply Charlie! I am ready for anything! But seriously, my engine sits in an Austin Mini cooper so its only dragging on about 600kgs..In addition the wheels that are on at the moment is 13", and if I get 4wd on it, I will reduce the wheelsize to 10"..So this will aid to making the gearing a bit shorter..With the original gearbox I`ve got on now I think the gearing is a bit to short, so if I could get a bit longer gearing I guess it would be a benefit...But that is difficult to say if it is suitable theoretically, I guess I just have to try if it suits my needs..When I calculated the speeds on a calculator it looked like it would suit me fine..about the strength, the driveaxles needs to be resized anyway, so I am probably going to swap them for some stronger and shorter ones to fit under this little car..So the only concern on strength is the gearbox and the rear differential because they can`t be strengthened..I am not running turbo, but got a ported head +++, and am hoping on achieving 200whp+, and I am going to run nitrous someday too..Hope this information helps some more for any more replies!

I've seen many posts and lots of intrest is building an AWD Civic or Integra. The CRV driveline is in fact weak and I agree with the 200WHP cap on it's durability.
One day someone will find these weaknesses and work on them... maybe it'll be you?

Re: B20 gearbox on B16a2 engine? (PupaScoopa)
maybe..I guess I will look more into it next year and see if it works out nice..I am not sure if I will be bothered with it, because of the cost and uncertainty of how well it combines with my engine..In addition, I don`t know if the increased grip will weigh up for the increased driveline-losses in power..But time will tell..Would be fun with a 4WD though..
But anyway..Thanks for your respond!

Your B16A's is ~8000rpm The trannies are geared so that even with a 6800rpm rev limit you will be able to top out each gear at about the same speed... B16A = 8000rpm in first = ~35mph, B18A/B/20/B/Z = 6800rpm in first = ~35mph... So when you swap that LS/CRV on your B16 you're going to have some really long gears... And i'll tell you this, you better be making a lot of power to wanna use on of those stock geared trannies... If you are gonna go hybrid on it, then that is a different story... My friend's 2.0L B18C on 22lbs in his daily driven EK made 506whp... A straight LS tranny with Quaife LSD was too much for that... The gears are just too long... Even for boost... A straight GSR or hybrid LS is the way to go for high boost, but i wouldn't try a straight tranny without ~600+ whp... I'm pretty sure you would be faster doing this... Keep your 13's on the car... Get a '99-2000 Si tranny... Buy 2 Bogart racing wheels... Pro 4's look nice and mount some M&H Racemaster 22x8.5x13 slicks on them... Yes those are a lot for a stock B16 but if your car only weighs 600kgs then you'll be fine... hehe Well good luck... Peace
