Icon2 Powerslot Rotors+EBC Redstuff=bad combo?

Hello, I have a 99 Civic Si and installed Powerslot rotors and EBC Redstuff pads 2 months ago. I have used Powerslot rotors before and never had any problems. I've never used the EBC pads, and something definitely does not feel right. Under moderate to heavy braking it feels like the front end is vibrating, and looks like there are black deposits all over the rotors. The rears don't even look like they are making full contact with the rotors. I called Powerslot and they said EBC pads are designed for use with EBC rotors and the break-in material does not work well with other rotors (including Powerslot). I tried re-installing the original front pads and all of the vibration went away, along with some of the black deposits, so I re-installed the EBC pads. I figured I'd give them a couple months but they still don't seem right.

Has anyone else ever used this combination together? If I get new pads now, should I have the rotors resurfaced before putting everything back together?

Thanks

it sounds like the rotors are warped. brand new pads should not do that if broken in properly. so, you may have messed up your pads and your rotors. hard to say man. pull the rotors and check for for straightness. take it to a machinist if your not sure. visually inspect the pads and go from there

EBC PADS WARP ROTORS - GET THOSE THINGS THE HELL OFF!

I tried a set of EBC greens back in 2000 and they instantly warped my rotors and the stories never end of this phenomenon.

And yes, resurfacing your rotors is a good idea if you decide to go back to OEM pads which i HIGHLY suggest. OEM honda pads are way good btw.

Thanks for the info, Katman. So OEM Honda pads over anything else? What about the Hawk Ceramic pads?

im running powerslots front with ebc greens and they feel great but under heavy braking they vibrate. not bad but i dont like it. powerslot recommends using HAWK pads with there rotors. so ill be changing to that in the spring. i also have ebc greens in the rear on factory rotors and it looks like they aint doing ****.

some of the best street pads

axxis ulitmate $60 axle
hawk Hps $ 80 axle
Porterfield 4s $ 90-100 axle

track pad like hawks blue doesn't works for street and they dust rims finish damaging deposite.

i never tried EBC red so i can't comment on it. It's actually not that easy to warp a disk on street use, have it checked out

You can buy brand new blank rotors for about $15-18 each. Just get new ones. Its cheaper than getting your slotted rotors turned.

I was very happy with carbotech bobcats on the street. www.ctbrakes.com .

Carbotech also offers rotors with coated black hubs so they don't rust and look nasty after the first rain.

I meant go with OEM honda pads over other brand-x OEM replacement pads (Raybestos, etc). Can't go wrong with OEM.

As for race/performance pads, any of the brands already mentioned are great. I've only had personal experience with Hawk HP+ myself which are great for track and street use.

I road race on OEM ITR pads and they hold up suprisingley well, if thats any concellation.

me too! I had carbotech xp10 on azenis and it was overkill. I can outbrake about 90 percent of the cars on the field too! Once I go to R compunds and back to the xp10s, itll be on!

interesting article explaining how brake rotors don't actually warp...

http://www.stoptech.com/tech_info/wp...rakedisk.shtml

I have PBR pads with powerslot rotors on my CRX and they feel great for the street, tons of braking ability. they also felt great when I took them to the dragon and some hard mountain roads but I was starting to be able to tell they were getting to their limit. if you plan on track day events you'll need something heavier duty than stock replacement type pads.
