Your friends are idiots, those shocks are terrible on lowerd cars.
Look at a Koni Srt-t, tokico illumnia, kyb Agx, or Koni Sport( i reccomend these.)

What kind of civic? Dx/Ex?

Ball joints, bushings would be a good place to look.

Get some lower control arms, and either Koni Yellow, Kyb agx or tokico illumina's are always good. All 3 are comparable, just really depends what you want to get out of the car.

Why do you say get lower control arms? You know they do absolutly noithing right?

Out of the 3 you listed koni is the best, life time warranty, (only orginal owner), then illumnia and AGX.
Koni would also likely be the cheepest in the long run, simply due to the fact they will last so much longer then just about any shock out.
