Z6 swap w/ HF tranny...even worth the money for the tranny? Or would it be better to have a DX cable for that motor? I know the HF has longer gears which would be better for gas and a good deal of my driving in the hatch is 123/85. How long are the gears in the HF compared to the DX?

The only difference between the DX and Si cable tranny is the Final Drive. I'd say get a DX tranny and see if someone makes or sells final drives for them. If you find something let me know cuz I want to either find an Si tranny like you or just refresh this tranny and get a different FD.

Anyone have a spare d-series block? If you do, let me know. Found a CRX Si tranny and the seller said either $90 if I come get it or straight trade for a d-series block

Going to look at it Tuesday evening!

Cuz the tranny needs to be taken off anyway because of the noise. Might as well inspect the internals and swap FD's.

I don't think its quite as easy as you're thinking. You can't just swap out the final drive on the differential. You have to swap out the mainshaft too. Gotta pull all the gears, synchros, washers, etc. off the main shaft and then re-assemble on the new mainshaft for the new fd.

That is more involved than I thought, but I'm always game to get my hands dirty in something new. It will be a learning experience. So the FD is built onto the mainshaft?

No, the actual fd is on the differential. Basically it is a different tooth count/diameter when you change it. The teeth where it meshes with the main shaft is built into the main shaft, so you have to swap the shaft out to compensate for the different tooth size/diameter. Hence why new final drive kits include the main shaft.

No updates. Ben is in the middle of buying a new house and moving. Once he gets settled work will resume on the body. Got to put that rear body panel in and finish up the bay. Then get the engine back and start putting the whole thing together.

Yea, I'm going to sell the CRX after we get the XJ road worthy. It has death wobble really bad right now. Going to tow it home later today. Just needs some steering stuff straightened out. Then I'll need new tires and shocks. Hopefully it'll clean up nice.

I love the XJ's! Miss mine so much! Expect 15-18 mpg with normal tires though. I'm consistently getting 38mpg outta the hatch on the highway now.
