Difficulty pumping gas after check valve replaced charcoal canister

Default Difficulty pumping gas after check valve replaced charcoal canister

I removed the charcoal evap canister years ago to make room for a catch can setup. I used to have an Earl's fuel filter inline to prevent debris from entering the vent. I didn't like the idea of fuel vapors constantly escaping, so in the spring, I bought an inline valve that vents both ways:

TPV6 In-Line valve is suitable for use in general automotive, including fuel injected, applications.

The problem I have now is that it's very difficult to pump gas, because the pump shuts off constantly. It takes forever! Is this something to be concerned about or is it just an annoyance that I have to live with? I e-mailed the company to see if this is something they've heard about happening before.

Sounds more like the breather tube is blocked.

On this 94 Integra hatch it is #13, breather tube, [rubber hose] attached to the tank and #15 fuel filler pipe kit, [metal], make sure this line is clear all the way into the tank, from the vent opening, [at fuel filler end]. 94

For some reason, you're picture doesn't show. How would it clog, though?

Sorry... FUEL TANK (1) for 1994 Acura INTEGRA HATCHBACK most common "clog" is a pinched rubber line, I have seen them clogged up with "crud" mud/dirt/debris . 94

Thank you, I'll go ahead and order that since it's only $7. What about the fuel filler pipe, what's the easiest way to see if that's clogged? Sorry about all the questions, but how would dirt get inside there?

In my Helms manual, it shows 2 breather tubes on the filler pipe. Weird...

May not be a "clog" it may be a pinched/kinked line, either rubber or metal line, what is that exploded view of, MM&Y? 94

OK, thank you. I'll get it checked. That's 99-00 Civic. I hope it doesn't require that the tank be removed. I hate those kind of diagrams. I wish they'd have a close-up.

You should be able to access it by removing #50, or remove #28 to access opening in breather tube and blow compressed air into it. 94

Sounds like your new valve may be faulty. Or it may be installed in the wrong location. Disconnect it and see if the problem persists.

I contacted the distributor, as well as the company who manufactures it and they never heard of this issue before. The manufacturer also suggested that the breather tube on the filler pipe is the problem. There are two of them on my car, as you can see in the picture above. I really pressed the issue to see if there was a possibility that the valve may be faulty, but wasn't offered a replacement. I don't think there's much that can go wrong, I guess. I went over with them exactly how and where it was installed. I'm using it for its intended purpose.

No, it's pretty idiot-proof. There's an arrow that points to the gas tank.

Regardless,common sense says you go back to the last thing you did to the vehicle in order to eliminate the possibilities, before you start needlessly checking every thing else first.....
