Running b series on kpro........
I shared my project on Facebook recently. Didn't think there would be much interest but seems there is.. So I will post it here and be able to update my findings/progress.
#1 hater comment iv received is this is "pointless and dumb" ... Um thanks?
That being said... I do not think this is revolutionary or that it's never been done.
Yes I know about s300+an additional c.o.p. That still uses the distributor
Yes aem has all this covered for thousands of dollars

Re: Running b series on kpro........
so I started with looking at the key sensors and and how they operate on a k series engine. And began to replicate there function on a b series.
Similar idea to converting f22 to run on kpro along with d17 engines as well.
The only b series sensors on my engine are tps, map,(b series throttle body) and the vss in the trans. Everything else is k series so that there is no need to convert signal
I have mounted a cam trigger and sensor off the exh cam(similar fashion as t1 trigger) which provides least amount of deflection/variance in readings as apossed to the end of the intake cam.
I am modifying a crank timing gear to produce the crank trigger for k series ecu to read
Both sensors are adjustable to allow timing synch between the two as they would appear in stock function on the original engine
I made my own harness direct to the ecu and modifying a conversion subharness for use in my 87 civic si

I'm curious how this will work too. including how you get around the cam timing; I'm assuming it theoretically should work by checking "disable p0341 error", and disabling VTC

Re: Running b series on kpro........
over s300 is that it uses coil on plug from the factory.
eliminate the distributor 100%.
gain alil better timing accuracy same as you would running the T1 cam gear with aem..
k series ecu use a oem wideband o2 sensor for closed loop
potentially much cheaper than aem for both ecu and sensors.

Re: Running b series on kpro........
I think this is a great idea.! Can this be adopted for an AEM EMS V1? I am currently looking at the option of going with a Twin Fire, coils and Engine Position Module (EPM) for my B18C motor.
Would I be able to use the AEM EMS with a crank trigger and remove the EMP?

Wow, this could be a game changer for the California crowd if I am seeing what I think I am seeing. Working obd2 port + engine management. SUB(MF'ING)SCRIBED!

Re: Running b series on kpro........
thats actually a really good point. I would assume it'd work. here on the east coast I did an LS2 swap into an s2000, and it passed no problem via a functional obd2 port for the ecu, seperate from the original obd2 port that still ran off the bcm and other stuff.

Re: Running b series on kpro........
I really don't know much about the obd2 port and its compatibility to pass inspections/smog on the conversion harnesses like hybrid racing. Esp if you have deleted the second o2 sensor and have no purge solenoids etc.

Re: Running b series on kpro........
I dont know how CA's inspections work, but around here any inspection that exists for obd2 simply checks to make sure all active monitors are "ready" and "pass". meaning if downstream sensors are disabled; the monitor is disabled, and wont throw a trouble code or a "fail" or "not ready" status, and therefore passes

Re: Running b series on kpro........
I see. And since everyone runs an obd1 ecu for swaps you can not pass via obd2 plug. Interesting.. Would be nice to test this theory out. Are you flagged or anything if you fail?

Re: Running b series on kpro........
if you fail, the result is different state to state, but you typically simply have a set number of days to fix the problem and return for a new inspection. and if it can't pass, you just can't drive the car anymore, and sometimes they even suspend the registration.
this is why a 600hp turbo rsx will often pass inspection, but an n/a integra with nothing more than mild cams and larger injectors will fail.

Re: Running b series on kpro........
exactly. when using an obd1 ecu there is no communication for an obd2 scanner. so if they attempt an inspection, when they plug the obd2 scanner in it's an instant fail due to lack of communication.

Visual just consists of vacuum routing, air intake and exhaust manifold, unless the smog guy is a total jerk....fails for a colored silicone vacuum hose.
Looking forward to the installed and running pics! Best new tech i have seen on this board in a while.

Very cool. I've wanted to dig in to something like this for a long time but just don't have the time or resources at the moment. There are countless advantages to getting away from the ancient obd1 ecus.
I also like your cam sensor mounting. Very clean.
Also, I'm really happy that no one has left the dumbf**k suggestion that you can't do it because the engine rotates the other way

Re: Running b series on kpro........
So the K cam wheel is 4+1 and the crank wheel is the same count? What did you have to do to physically fit the cam wheel to the B-series sprocket?
...And how about a link to your Facebook project?

Re: Running b series on kpro........
hondata makes a cam gear for the 01+ civic so tat you can tune on kpro(those already have cop etc) as well convert s2000 to kpro by using cam and trigger wheels. which is where I got my idea from..
