Default I busted an ebay scammer, you can too - read

I was scammed for $1325 on ebay for a full metal jdm kit - to make it short, the scammer got arrested and is going to trail for grand larceny and I got my money back, read on for the details.

First of all, the deal a too good to be 100% safe to begin with, but I documented the details of the transaction in the payapl reciept. I made phone contact with the scammer before paying and tried to get all of the info down just in case. After I sent him the money, he stopped contact with me for about 3 weeks. I tried to contact him many times via phone and e-mail and didn't get through. He disconnected his answering machine and didn't respond to my e-mails. When I was able to contact the number, another person picked up and said that the scammer (Choung Nguyen) didn't live there and didn't know who I was talking about.

I filed a complaint with paypal and they found the scammer at fault but ofcourse the scammer withdrew the money asap so they couldn't recover my funds. Ebay is useless, they just told me to file a complaint with paypal.

My step father got a law degree at some point so he wrote a few letters from "my lawyer" which threatened him with civil and legal action - that did promt a response from him, but he was just stalling and didn't send the money ofcourse.

The whole time I was documenting all e-mails and details of the case, I contacted the CA Jose High tech crime unit and police who had an experience with that scammer before, but he gave the money back and they dropped charges. After recieving the documentation on the case, they said the evidence was so convincing that they didn't have to go to the DA. They went to his house and arrested him after he gave them a BS story.

The scammer was let go on bail and has a trial soon. After he got out of jail (one day I think) he sent me the money within a week. I however won't drop this until he is in jail for as long as possible - scum like this shouldn't rot in prison, even if it means flying to CA to testify.

So there ya have it - don't be discouraged if you've been scammed, you're not the only one and there are people that can and will help you to get the money back. Good luck all!

Good job! the scammer is prolly gettin bent over in the shower as we type

Paypal is totally dickless- they should just freeze the account soon as somebody files a complaint. Waiting 10 days and giving the scammers all the time they need to withdraw the funds..... that's just lame.

thanks for the feedback, I'm glad I got my money back, but I care as much about putting him in jail as I did getting my money back. As far I see it, this situation is far from over. I just hope they don't dismiss the case.
