AIM tires where i bought my toyos said he wouldnt shave any tire thats ever been used. might have something to do with the rocks imbedded in rubber messing up the cutting tool. not sure if yours have been used, you didnt specify. just fyi.

tires are new and mounted, don't know if that makes a diffrence or not
another member PM'ed me the following info;
Nate Jones Tires in Signal Hill (562) 597-3369
gave them a call and they said they can shave the tires but couldn't give me a price since the guy that actually does them wasn't there today
hope this helps anyone else looking to shave their tires in the LA/OC area

Re: (SloCivicHMM)
Shaving a tire reduces the tread depth, therefore reducing the 'squirm' of the tread blocks. At full tread depth, the tread blocks will move around and will ultimately result in 'chunking' of the tread, where the tread physically seperates from the tire. By reducing the tread depth, you are reducing the tread movement, enhancing grip and effective use of the tire.

When I was at BW last year and had one tire installed, I asked him about shaving another set I had at home and he told me he would do it. He even told me that many people buy tires cheaper elsewhere and have them sent there to be shaved and mounted. This was the one worker at the tire shop.
My understanding is that if you bought tires from them, the shaving and mounting is cheaper. Did you speak directly with the tire shop? Maybe their policy changed, but try calling and asking(begging) Les.

Re: (SloCivicHMM)
basically you get the same effect as wearing them down to that point but without having to drive all that time with the tires with alot of tread depth. Its usually only done to new tires to get them to the drivers preffered tread depth.

Re: Tire Shaving (Vitt1)
Hey Vitt1, when i called Buttonwillow i spoke with a lady. She kept putting me on hold, i suppose to ask someone else about the tire deal. But your right i should have asked just to talk to someone in the Tire shop.
BTW the guy in Signal Hill said he would charge $30 to shave a tire, so $120 for a set, ouch. Anyways this seems to be my only choice so far.

Re: Tire Shaving (Motorgroove)
Motorgroove, If that lady put you on hold, she probably asked the right person, probably even Les himself, who is the guy that runs things there afaik, above the tire shop worker. So it could be their policy changed. I was there many months ago.
