Default jaytuner123's Quest To Road Race a 2006 Accord V6 MT (J30a4 engine)

I've got a 2006 Accord V6 MT (J30a4 engine). I'd like to do something less than $1000 that's fairly easy to install (I don't have a ton of tools), to get the most gains. My thought was to start with cold air intake and a fuel ignition controller (e.g. this one). Any thoughts? Is there something else that would be better to get more gains for about the same $$? Can anyone provide input on what sort of HP I could expect from those two items on my car? I have a rough idea of the cold air intake, but less so the F/IC.

Thanks!

What's wrong with the 200hp it has stock?

Bolt on parts are gong to be very negligible for the amount of money you will spend on them.
What you think a CAI will give you isn't even close to what the dyno will say.
I wouldn't be surprised if you might pick up 3-5hp.
The FIC wont garner much more, but you'll have to tune the car and that gets pricey for dyno time.
Take what you have now and learn to drive fast. Seat time!

Thanks for confirming what I was already suspecting. I'm generally content with my power, but am going to the track with my buddy who has a 328 with M package and stage 1 Dinan upgrade (313 hp) and was feeling the desire to make up some time. However, I was already assuming that I'd spend $1000 (before tuning) for maybe 10-15hp total with both upgrades. I had another friend tell me it would be less, which fits what you guessed. My new theory is a set of springs to give me a bit more in the turns. They would go well with the 18" wheels I have now. Thanks again!

244 HP you have plenty of power.
Don't put too much hype in a car that has more HP than yours.
Its the driver that is fast not the car.
I've seen many an accomplished driver catch and pass superior HP'd cars with much much less HP.
Start with your suspension shocks and springs, tires, leave the brakes alone for now.
Get lots of seat time.
Good Luck!

If it's going to the track, I don't know if I completely agree with Dirty's comment about leaving the brakes alone. Newer drivers on track tend to be a bit more heavy handed on the brakes.

You will probably be fine the first 1 or 2 outings, but I'd look at upgrading the pads and fluid soon if you plan to track more. Even Hawk HP+ can handle more heat than stock, can be daily driven and aren't too expensive. Motul rbf600 fluid is only about $15 a quart.

At a minimum make sure the brakes are well bled and the fluid is fresh.

Driver training, tires, suspension, brakes and weight reduction. Leave the engine as is.

Have you ever tracked this car? I find it hard to believe that you did and found engine power to be the bottleneck on this vehicle.

Ahh correct, better fluid, better pad yes totally forgot that.
As far as the rest of the brake system leave it as is.
With the accord calipers and rotors you should be fine.

I've got a set of shocks that would be great for your car. See post #324 in the race parts supplies thread. https://honda-tech.com/forums/road-r.../#post51242630

Spend your money on tires and brakes, and a maybe a rear sway bar. The brakes on that generation accord can't stand up to even daily driving, they are going to start to fade on your outlap.

Pads & fluid. Suggest Centric cryo-treated rotors (blank, not drilled)
