Autocrossing and Toyo RA1s
anyone autocross on these tires?
I'm thinking of going to a local event here with them but haven't driven on RA1s at an autocross.
I do have a PAIR of Victoracer V700s. since it's a CRX, i'm thinking i could run the front wheels with the victos and the rears with the rA1s
only problem is, the victos are on 15x6.5 and the rears are on 15x7s...

I run RA-1's in honda challenge, and all I can say is that they do need to warm up before they will perforn to their potential. I don't know if you autoxers have space to properly warm them before your run. I am comfortable at 100% after about 3-4 turns.

I used them at the only auto-x or any other driving event that I have ever been to, and they did pretty well. I had major rotation issues(not the good kind) at first because of improper suspension settings, but once that was fixed the car did great. Good luck.

Re: Autocrossing and Toyo RA1s (Driven)
I used them for a two day autocross school. It was understeer city.
I can't do a fair comparison between them and my regular Kumho R-comps because of the difference in sizes (205/50/15 RA1 and 235/45/13 V700 or 215/50/13 V710) but compared to Azeins of equal size, not much better.
I really like the RA1s on the track and they seem to wear like iron, but they just didn't grip for me at the autocross.

I will use RA1 on my ITR for track days at Summit Main. I usually buy them full tread and will drive them on the street to cycle them a little before using them at the track.
I don't autocross, so I can't address the turn-in delay that someone mentioned. On the track they seem to respond very well at places where you'd notice if there was a problem (Summit Turns 1, 5, 6).
Someone else mentioned understeer, but I don't have that problem, either, not in 205's or 225's.
I dunno. To me, despite the slightly higher initial cost, RA1 seem to be a best buy R compound because they simply wear forever, without chunking or other problem, and because the grip goes away gradually over a long period.
On a set of Victoracers that I had, I could actually tell in the middle of a 20 minute track session that the tyres were suddenly finished...and I've never had that problem with RA1.
Another advantage I think you have with RA1 is how very well they do in the rain. At this past Friday's Seat Time it was pretty easy to get past an R32 AWD VW, a car that should probably have been the clear favourite in our sessions for the fastest times.

I don't have much seat time with R-Comps, At Expo was my first time using them and the RA1s were very very surprising . They heated up on turn 5maybe 6 and never gave up grip. As for the AutoX... I would think they are better then the normal street tire even while cold. But I could be wrong.
I was very pleased with the RA1s and kinda wish I never used them Now I have a new item to spend money on

My experience with the RA-1 is consistent with others here. They're great - on the racetrack. They need a good half lap or more before they warm up and reach their optimal operating temperatures. Since they're not so good until then, I can only imagine that they aren't so great for autocross (which I don't do).
If you're a relative novice at autocross, I would recommend just using your street tires. If you're experienced, and particularly if you're competing, I would recommend that you get a tire that is specifically made for autocross, such as the Hoosier A3S04 (which I've heard is on sale at http://www.hoosiertire.com BTW). Tires made specifically for autocross have softer compounds that don't need to warm up to be effective.

Good point Ken. I'd probably rather NOT autocross RA1's. Kumho, Hoosiers already mentioned, or maybe the Hankook autocross compound tires (they have 3 compounds of Z212 and Z214) would be better options.
I have not autocrossed them.

my experience from today:
they are better than azenis, but not by much, not nearly as good as victos.
