Default PPG Shopline V.S. Omni

I have decided that I want to use whichever is cheaper. I have seen results from these paints and would like to know which paint is cheaper for a complete primer, base and clear? I would like to see a couple cars painted with these if anyone has them. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Where do you get your shopline? I cant seem to find it anywhere around mid-missouri. I would like to get a black or a black metallic. Anyone know what a full primer, base, and clear would run me price wise? I want to try and keep it around $300. Anybody have pics of a car that used shopline?

Damn, $40 for a pint of Omni? I get a pint of Omni for around $25 or so. Now the top of the line PPG paint, that usually cost me around $40 for a pint.

Shopline is for higher volume distros. But basically Shopline = Omni for the most part.

Don't do Omni/Shopline in black, it's not really black. It has a brown tinge to it so it doesn't look deep looking.

Lol, so true I used Super Black from shop line like $20 dollors a quart, yes I must get a better price then most $20-40 for a pint that is crazy, It is black at night and on overcast days but with the sun you can really see a brown hew to it. I never used Omni I use shopline, just did my 91 hatch the shopline is thin, took 5 coast of base for complete coverage. Not to bad only cost me $28 a quart for S2000 grand prix white. The shopline clear is decent, I know a bunch of people that shoot PPG DBC and DBU and use shopline clear, it is all PPG so it works ok together. Next job is my EK, I might use the DBC base for better coverage, with the DBC you can still use shopline reducer.

You can get some nice blacks with the DBC line from PPG but youll be paying about twice the price of Shopline.

omni and shopline paints are cheaper then ppg global and deltron, but ppg global is a much better product.the primer and the clear tends to shrink less(resulting in orange peel and hardlines,a.k.a. sand scratches). Some older people may claim that acrlic enamallooks great, but it wont last but for a year on avg.,no matter how well you take care of it.If your looking for a cheaper product,I would go with a 2stage omni paint product(urethane enamal) amd an omni 2k primer surfacer.

Cheap paint products tend to mix the coler with alot of clear, which is why it doesnt cover very well. The best(really the only way)to compensate for that is to apply a 2k primer sealer on the surface panel right before you paint it.Ask your paint tech at the store for more advice.

I wouldnt use either one of those.... If your not gonna get at least a DBC basecoat and DCU clear then dont bother.. I like to stick with BASF paint. LIMCO is there cheap brand and its not bad at all. If you go along the lines of Dupont you can use Nason clear which is cheaper and works very well. polished excellent.

I know alot of people that shoot DBC or DBU and use shopline clear, The results are great, Ive seen them with my own eyes. Ive used shopline base one my 91, it took 5 coats to cover but the finish is very nice, no complaints. I dont know much about paint, im learning i was wondering why you say "dont bother"

If your really looking for a cheap paint thats going to look decent and not kill your wallet,Check your nappa parts store for martin seniour automotive paint. Its made by sherwen williams.I know its wierd buying paint from a parts store, and obviously its not going to crack it on a show car,but it can look good for a decent price.I would at least use a urethane enamal(2-stage)product.Ive used this product, and it does look good. The appearence of the finished product(as well as sometimes quality) allways depends upon the prep work.
