Default Paint Matching

Is there something shops do to alter the formula to try to "match" your car?
I suppose the paint is spec'd to the usual code and blending into adjoining panels is the only way to try to create the illusion?

With paint codes, there can be one paint code and as many as 3-20 different variants of that same paint code, all just a bit different.

Usually they get out all variants(on spray out cards) to match them and start narrowing down the variants till they find the closest one to the car color.

Variants won't look like much of a difference, till you start comparing them with the car or other variants.
After the best variant is picked, they start blending within the panel or into near by panels.

Even though someone has a paint code and is going to blend, it should be match to a spray out card.

Example, Color Code 1G3-Toyota, 20 or so variants, ranging from a light charcoal to a charcoal with blue tint. Gas door lid should be matched to the right variable, even if blending. Sometimes the variant is in the VIN.

A lot more factors come into color blending also, but color variants is top.

Hmmmm, informative.
I believe it, my wife's TL is a different is about four different shades of White Diamond Pearl. They actually took off the filler lid on one job and didn't paint it when doing the quarter
Looked like a damn bad tooth. Had to take it back.
I was wondering for some repairs I may attempt on kids car.
Thanks Sport!

Yea, no problem. Pearls are harder to do that regular solids or metallics too.

Not painting the lid in order to save a few minutes is a shame.
Bet the guy that did got an ear full from his boss.
