Filler Crack
The front of my frame has been replaced/welded
The Filler is cracking up....
Any insight to why it might be cracking up?
What are the possible solutions?

Re: Filler Crack
I can't really see the pic that well at all. If a part of the frame was replaced, to my understanding, they shouldn't be using filler over top of that. It should just be welded and painted over, especially if it's a stress point. The filler would crack easier there. If you can get a better picture, it might be easier to tell.

Re: Filler Crack
Right, I understand where the crack is, but I'm having a hard time discerning any detail on the damaged area. The point I'm trying to get at is that whomever fixed your frame should not be using filler in the engine bay. I can't think of a reason why you would use filler. Anyways, reasons why filler cracks, stress from underneath, constant temperature changes with poor adhesion, there are a couple of reasons, I think number one being body roll and or stress. Possible solutions, I have to see more detailed pictures to figure that out. Maybe welding on studs and banging it out, or if the underside is accessiable, hammer and dolly it, although unlikely. Worst case secnario, cut out the bad stuff, re-weld in a good piece and paint it. Although again, I couldn't give you a straight answer without really seeing it up close or in person.

Re: Filler Crack
The section where the ps bottle usually is... more forward, Kinked due to an accident
So they cut the frame go forward and welded it back.

Re: Filler Crack
haha looks like someone did a hack job and just threw some bondo over it to cover the repair. Its cracked because it should have never been there. Prolly alot of stress at that particular location or poor prep work. Also looks a little deep to have filled with bondo.

Re: Filler Crack
Ok
The filler was removed about 1/4"-1/2".
Another shop said they just laid on the filler without removing the paint.
I think they cleaned off the old filler and paint, and re fillered it
Do you think it would hold this time guys?
Or should they of hammered it out?

Re: Filler Crack
ummm there shouldnt be filler on your frame rails. if they put a new end on your rail. all they should do is cut the old rail off then weld on the new rail grind it smooth paint it. no need for filler

Re: Filler Crack
You'll have to get all that junk off there, and then use seam sealer, not body filler. Off the top of my head, I can't remember if that particular seam even has seam sealer, but I'm pretty sure it does from the factory. Maybe someone can confirm for you...
