carbon fiber hood repair?
Hey, i grabbed a carbon fiber hood today on a whim. 2 1/2 hours away from me felt like hours on end especially when i work grave and i set out only 3 hours later once i got home D:
called my brother over, took my hood off to test it's ability of being able to fit in the car or in this case, lack of. (If you were wondering, no it won't fit in a civic). Rushed to harbor freight and picked up some thin poly rope and ratchet strap plus a mover's blanket so it won't scuff the top of my brother's roof. Smashed to San jose from sacramento. When i said whim... i meant, this was planned last minute, poor communication, etc...
so anyways...
i paid 80 for it. it's VIS, so it wasn't that bad. everything could be buffed out except 2 parts which are chipped and the edge of the hood.
Minor
A little carbon fiber sticking out, but not much. no damage to the thread.
Biggest chip on the hood, exposed carbon fiber. a little tiny piece chipped off. Next to it is just tree sap residue.
Tiny crack, no exposed carbon fiber.
Chipped edge a bit.
The other chipped edge.
Chipped side, carbon fiber not exposed.
Everything on the hood, scratches and tiny cracks could be rebuffed.
Anyways, i have a few questions...
Does anyone here know how to repair all of this? I tried to get a quote from this guy and he wanted 195 to wet sand, paint the exposed carbon fiber and scratches black, and clear. No thanks... He even mentioned that it would not fix the chips. I know how to wet sand, clear, and buff.
Are there anyway to fill the chips? I believe vis just put gel coats on their cf hoods. can i use epoxy resin, some type of resin... something to fill in the holes, let sit and dry, wet sand? I probably won't do anything to the hood edges... seems like there aren't a fix to that or is there? looks like all i can do it sand those edges and leave it alone.
I decided if it's just impossible to fix, which i hope not... i'll just wrap it with another cf vinyl.
Thanks for reading.
any links, knowledge, etc... is appreciated.

Re: carbon fiber hood repair?
If you decide to wrap it in cf vinyl and need materials let me know.
As long as the hood is smooth and patched up before wrapping it, it should turn out fairly nicely.
