My mom's car started getting a ticking noise a few days ago. Not sure if it's a rod knock. how can i tell if it's that?

Bottom or top end. At idle or higher rpms. Under load? On cold start, does it slow the noise witter out while it's warming up?

And this rod knock that your talking about would be a lot more serious than just noises, it would leave shavings off what it hits and bearings would be shot.
