Default Required quarts of oil

I just changed the oil on my 2007 CRV. The manual says the 2.4 liter engine uses 4.4 quarts but the dip stick registers 1 quart low even after a full 5 quarts of oil. What gives? Do I follow the manual or the dip stick?

Thanks.

Shut up or get out, you can see he is new, he doesnt need the likes of you telling him what to do, if I were a mod I would ban you. Im sure he didnt post here on purpose. You were a noob too at one time, give the guy a break.

To the original poster, make sure your car is perfectly level, even if its on a slight slant the dipstick might read, 1/2 quart off, if its on a larger slant it could read up to a 1qt off. Also make sure the dipstick is going ALL the way back in, sometimes it is also hard to read when the oil is clean. Im sure you have enough oil in it to drive it somewhere flat and wait a couple minutes and check again. Tell us how you make out

after you put in the required amount of oil....put oil cap back on and run the engine for about 15-30secs.....the level should be where it needs to be on hte dip stick......if not....add the correct amount and you are good to go

That is correct! Put 4.5 quarts in, and run it then check the level. If you just pour in the oil and pull the dipstick your reading won't ever be right.
