Pilot Cranks and Revs But Won't Start
Ok, so my wife and I were driving last night when our Pilot suddenly lost power and died while running 65 mph in the fast lane of a local highway... We managed to get it to the side of the road, but it will not start again. Here are the details:
1. Low fuel light had come on, and the indicator said we had 25 miles until empty. We were going to stop at the next station about 2 miles up the road.
2. The car just suddenly died with no warning lights or other symptoms. It was a complete loss of power.
3. When we tried to start it again, the car cranks, revs up to 1,000-1,500 rpms, drops to almost nothing, revs up again, drops, then dies.
4. I tried turning the key forward and leaving for 10 seconds, then turn off, then repeat a few times, but still no start.
5. I can hear the fuel pump running for a couple seconds when I turn the key forward.
6. When it is revving, if I press the gas pedal, it makes a loud "sputter" before dying.
7. When I looked under the hood I found that the air filter cover was loose, exposing the filter. The local oil change company did not secure it when they checked it a couple of weeks ago....
8. Towed it home last night, tried to start this morning, no go still.
Any thoughts? I can't get it to the mechanic until tomorrow, but I would like to try to fix it myself today. On a side note, I am not all that mechanically inclined, so this might be a futile effort...

Yes, I added fuel, I should've mentioned that. I did find out what the problem was… I did find out what the problem was… A bee got sucked into the mass airflow sensor and threw an error code. We took out the bee, and the vehicle starts just fine.
