97 Passport, hard starting, stalling, rough idle until warm
Greetings all,
I have a 97 Passport, about 70k on it. It starts rough, I have to give it gas and fluff the pedal to get it going. It stalls out and finally it will idle but roughly. It will run with hesitation and sluggishness on and off again as the pedal is pushed down....missing
Then when it gets warmed up the problem is not there...just a small amount of hesitation when accelerating.
any help is appreciated.

IAC Valve working?
Did you check for a vacuum leak?
I can't remember, but is there a mass air flow sensor, if so have you checked that?
What kind of maintenance has been done?
Has timing belt been done?

Hey Splaturn,
below are the answers to your questions.
IAC Valve is brand new,
The vacum seems to be good, getting plenty of suction at the right spots and not hearing any hissing?? I dont have any special vacum checker tools so is there another way to check?
It does have a mass air flow sensor, Im not really sure how to check besides see if it getting power...which it is.
All maintenance has been done, plugs, air filter, fuel filter, oil, and I have replaced the fuel pump about 6 months ago.
The timing belt has never been done.
Thank you for your reply and helping.

Do you have a check engine light on?
I guess it is the v6.....if it is then open the throttle look inside and you will see a pipe inside it will be prob full of carbon build up. I would recommend if it is clean it out with some carb clean and some pipe cleaner brushes. if you remove the egr valve on the back side of the engine (by the firewall) it will make it a little easier. I know sometimes they get clogged up, try that and see if it gets any better. Good luck
