there's a good amount of people who just spray down their car throw some soap on, rinse and wipe it down with a rough terry cloth towel. No good.

A usual detail takes between 3-4 hours depending what you want.

i use proffesional grade products, makita polisher. workout 2000 compound and a special mix for certain cars. I use meguires wax aswell as flash wax. wheel acid and degresser on certain cars. microfiber towels and lambskin mits. I use Proffesional terry cloths as well as chamios.
