Interior lighting.
I have 2 12" LED strips that I'm gonna put under the footwells of my 98 civic. I'm gonna put them on a switch but I'd also want the dome light to trigger and they come on when I open the door/unlock with remote etc.
I understand I'd have to use a relay but how would I wire this up so I can turn on the footwells with the switch without my domelight coming on? What wires to to what pins (87,86.85,30 87A) on the relay. I'll be using a SPDT 5 pin relay.
Also if I have to diode anything. What wires would it be and which way turn the diode?
Thank you, Your response will greatly be appreciated

Re: Interior lighting.
85 and 86 is the terminal. When powered its what switches the really. In this case, it would connect 30 and 87a. When no power is applied to the relay, 30 is connected to 87. So in your case you'd do something like:
12v on 85
negative door trigger on 86
12v on 30
LED strip on 87a
This would illuminate the LED strip whenever the door was open.
I can't think of how to add a switch right now, I'm a little baked. Check back though

Re: Interior lighting.
I just thought about this way too hard but your switch will be 12v on one side and the other side to the LED strip, and you'll put a diode on the power wire with the stripe toward the LED strip. for the lead coming off of 87a on the relay, you'd put a diode with the stripe facing the LED strip, but it shouldn't matter because unless the door is open, 87a and 30 won't be connected and the terminal will have no voltage across it so the dome light shouldn't come on anyway.
