I attempted to install my plug and play (yes I know, plug and play sucks) HID kit yesterday and after getting the passenger side installed I tried to see if they worked. They didn't turn on so I check the fuse, and it was blown.

So my question is do I need higher ampage fuses for the HIDS? Will I keep blowing fuses? Is it bad to use higher amp fuses to avoid blowing the original 10amp fuses?

(I forgot to unplug my battery when installing them yesterday, could that be why I blew the fuse)

Well, it is always best to use an aftermarket wiring harness that gets power directly from the battery, using relays switched by the stock headlight harness.

I used 20A fuses when I had my old HID kit, and had no issues for over a year, but when I did my retrofit I went ahead and made harnesses for my own piece of mind.

So do you think I will be fine using 20 amp fuses with the stock wiring harness?

It's a gamble really... if anything ever shorts, it could melt the wire instead of blowing the fuse as it should, or worse, it could start a fire.

I was lucky that I never had problems running 20A fuses.

you never had a problem because the only reason it blows the 10A fuse, is because the ballasts only pull a lot right at startup, then draw less power than normal bulbs for the rest of the time.. i always ran 20A fuses in my integra for the HIDs.. and i had my integra with HID from 1999 to 2002 or 2003 something like that

Alright well I'm gonna try it again with the 10amp fuses.. If it blows those again I'll bump it up to 20amp.

it will blow a 10A every single time.. within 3 seconds, the light will shut off.. a 10A will not work unless you are using one of those wiring harnesses that connects to the battery and has an inline fuse.

Shoot I remember sticking one of my old HID kit bulbs and ballast in my mom's Avalon, just to see what it would look like, and it blew the stock 15A fuse, even though it came from the factory w/ headlight relays.

i recently blew out one of my bulbs with thhe 10a fuse also, for my 95 gsr, so which one would you recommend? 12a, 20a?
