Default Is the K24Z3 (same as K24Z7 2012 Civic Si) a good engine to modify?

The new Civic Si will have the K24Z7 and from my understanding its nearly identical to the K24Z3 in the TSX. If i am not mistaken it has the crippled exhaust cam and integrated header. Will the K24Z3 (and K24Z7) be a motor with good potential to modify similar to the K20Ax series? Or would i need a K20Ax head, fuel, ecu set up for real power?

i've seen a k24z3 block, and we laid a older style headgasket on it and it was WAY different... i've noticed the valve cover was shaped different too.

it doesnt appear you can put a "true vtec" head onto the latest k24z series

the accord k24z3 has 10.5:1 pistons, the tsx has 11:1

the new '12 si is the same hp as tsx, but 2 less tq

i read a japanese article somewhere where honda noted that due to stronger enviromental cleanleness pressure, that the era of the k20 was over, and there releasing a 30 car limited production of the type r that is a 260hp 2.2 k20 block. the last k20 blocks to be produced

k24z3/z7 run a single lobe exhaust cam & have a single exit exit port on the cylinder head (which the catalytic converter bolts directly too) the camshafts are not interchangeable with older K-series. so no they are not a good motor to modify IMO unless you bolt a turbo to the head with simple bolton's you can make much more with an older k24a2

Both motors run the same (RL5) pistons, so both are 11:1

Is it possible to do a k24z3 or k24z7 swap into a 2012 ex?

I agree with everything you said except this part... if it was an issue they wouldn't release it period! Also Type-R from what was released was closer to the 280-290 hp range.

It depends on what you want to do.. they make great power on lower boost setups. full race kit on 10-12psi makes over 400.

All motor they are easy to get to 240ish hp, not much there after that.

Hey I been looking at the new fb6, I haven't come across anything on the cam spec such as size, duration, or angle. I just wanted to know that is it out of the question to assume that the reason for not having VTEC cross over on the exhaust cam is that the single lobe is VTEC and that its running VTEC full time?? And wouldn't this help the VTEC cross over be more smooth, so there no lost of power?? Just wanted to know haven't seen anyone ask this or maybe I'm looking in the wrong place.

Check out Humble Performance, they have been doing a lot of tuning on the new Si and have made a bunch of power with very little mods.

You could spend less money on turbo kit and tuning it make plenty of power

Great motor to modify makes a lot of torque just natural aspiration is limited on power and yes you can swap k20 head

You can try the typical O2 foulers and such to try and trick the CEL for the cat delete... but instead of that, why not just get to the closest Hondata Dealer that has a "Dealer FlashPro" kit and you can get your ecu flashed with a cat-delete tune for $350.00 USD ???
