I recently found an '88 Integra LS in pretty decent condition for 700; the body is straight and looks free of any collisions, the interior is alright, it starts up and seems to shift smoothly through all the gears, but the engine has a pretty bad knock and a low oil pressure light: it runs, but barely.
Despite this, I was thinking of snatching this car up and doing a little TLC to get it road-worthy again.

So I was wondering on what would be a nice easy and affordable engine to swap into in place of the stock parts it currently has.

Should I replace just the engine or also the transmission (since its an semi-unknown factor concerning its current condition), and just upgrade to something a little more?

I'm looking to making this project car into something that I can use as a daily-driver between work and college that will be reliable and fuel-efficient.
