won't go into any gear
My civic won't go into any gear when it's on but when I shut it off it goes into any gear ...please help. I forgot to mention it has a b20b swap

Also sounds like it has a rod knock or something is rattling it's started making the noise rite before the transmission started having this problem

probably going to have to take the tranny out and inspect clutch, flywheel, throw-out bearing etc. maybe something is loose or broken? what happens if you start the car while its already in 1st?

I personally wouldn't want to try that. If I ruled out the exterior stuff (check your hydraulic lines, connections etc) you know you're going to have to the clutch and check it out anyway... ?

There is a good chance your flywheel bolts are loose... this would account for the noise just before the clutch/transmission issues. Pull the transmission and inspect the clutch/flywheel package. You will find your problem there.
