Default tach drops to 0 after vtec hits

hi, i have a 99 civic with a 93 h22 vtec motor. my problem is when i hit vtec at 5500 rpm the tach would go straight down to 0. when vtec isnt engaged the tach would go back to the normal rpm. before this happened the tach was jumping all over the place. so i replaced the ignitor in the dizzy and that problem went away. now im having this problem with the tach going to 0 as soon as vtec hits. can anyone help me with this? could it be the cap or rotor on the dizzy?

My buddys GSR did this when we put an LS in it. I just ran a wire from the distributor tach signal right into the factory tach, and it works fine now. And I just spliced into them I didn't actually rewire anything...
