he doesn't have the A2, he just has a B16A...2nd gen with 10.4 compression and 170 stock hp, same motor I have...VTEC kicks at 5500.....and you should easily notice at full throttle it kicking over, if not then I'd check to make sure everything is working right.

The a2 kicks in at 5300, but the stock tach shows 5500. I learned this from someone who put in an APEXi VAFC and compared the two tachs.

why does people keep sayin A2, his motor isn't an A2....A2's are Si motors from the US.....his post says JDM B16A ...... my tach reads 5500, but its not a stock tach so aren't autometer gauges suppose to be accurate??

I always thought only the electronic digital gauges were correct.

You might have gotten B16 automatic cams. This
happened to guy I know and vtec was almost undetectible. He
found out when he got gsr cams and compared the auto one's to
some manual tranny cams (if that makes sense...?)

yes my engine is a jdm b16 2nd generation. whats weird is sometimes the CEL comes on then it shuts off and it comes on again.

but, yea it doesnt even feel like there is vtec, the rpms just climb normally and i feel no switchover.

about the automatic cams i ll have to look into to that.

i ll have to bring the car back to my mechanic cause i didnt install the motor myself ( i dont know too much about swaps yet - dont flame, not everybody has the tools and experience).

your tach might be off.
whats your rev limit? 8000 on the dot?
it dosent turn on at 5300.

what ecu are you running, thats the thing that determines where vtec kicks over and everything else anyway, not the motor....im running the JDM stock P30 so maybe thats why my xover and etc is different
