Default I need help identifying the origin of my Y8 head....

I called honda to get a top end gasket set and timing belt for the Y8 head I am about to put on my Y7 block. They asked if it was Japenese, American, or canadian. The canadian and american are the same parts, but the japanese is different. I have no idea what car it came from. Are there any ways to determine this by numbers on the head? Or any identifying markings what so ever? Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

I don't know how you can identify the origin just from the head. Find out what it was in last. My car was from Canada, but most likely all the Y8 heads should be the same no matter where it's from.

I am not sure what car it is off of, and I thought they were all the same also, but apparently honda has 2 different part numbers for the parts that I need, and they are different in price also.

Let's see. You live in Kansas City, MO, USA. So unless your engine was bought as a "JDM" motor or there is a Kansas City, MO, JAPAN...then I would assume you have the "North American" motor.

Just tell Honda you own a US 98 civic EX coupe, and you want the top end gasket set for that motor. That's where any D16Y8 engine resides -- > in any 96-00 civic EX coupe.

Not all honda's are produced in the same place, for instance look at the name plates on the core support, some say Honda of Canada, and some say Honda of Japan etc.

Didn't the 96-97 Del Sol Si's come equpped with a D16Y8 also? I will try for the 98 EX, I gues I could always try to return them if it looks like they won't work, but I doubt it. Thanks for the Help, I am just going to suspect that it is either US or Canadian because of the better odds and see what happens. I will let you all know.

wow you know what thats a good question about the 96 Si DelSol. I dont think it did, prolly still came with a D16Z6 but, I'm not sure what ecu Honda used since the 96 delsol Si is OBD2.... thanks for bringin that up! I wanna find out...

meantime, you should be fine if you order any 96-98 EX COUPE gasket head kit.

I heard that the 96-97 Del Sol came with a Y8, I will know for sure in a day or 2, my buddies girlfriend has one. I tried to order the parts for a 96-00 ex, but that is when they asked me the origin. I guess you can tell for sure by the VIN that is what the dealership told me. I didn't see a VIN stamp on the head, there isn't one is there? Thanks for the help.

Of cource it has a Y8. There is no reason Honda would put an obd1 engine in an obd2 car. Use your heads.
