ok lets bring this back from the dead with another problem im having with my f20b.............. random misfire...... so i have checked everything i could think of i replaced the spark plugs, wires, dizzy (TD61), fuel filter, injectors. Checked the compression on each cylinder 1=120 2=120 3=120 4=120 i know some say that its supposed to be 220 or around there but i would think if all 4 hit the same it is ok? I also pulled the plug to look at the timing with a lite and it lines up with the notches just fine. I am not sure what else to check? I also tried sprayin starter fluid all over and no reaction.

anyone else have any ideas? wat can be causing the mis fire?

okay i will go pick up a valve adjustment wrench/screw set and check it out

if im right intake should be 0.15-0.19mm
exhaust 0.15-0.21mm

I could be wrong if someone could correct me if i am wrong

ok so i just got valve adjusted and it runs alot better how ever ...... random misfire code appears i am not sure if its the head gasket or not i think its time to take it too the shop unless anyone else has another thing for me to check? It smells like its burning rich for some reason

Default F20B Head Gasket

Most of the F20B posts are pretty old. I'm looking at swapping this in my hatch. Has anyone come up with a correct head gasket? If not, what's the consensus on max bore if I have the stock sleeves done.

hmotorsonline sells the f20b head gasket.

I'm having the same issue with random misfires. I have changed the battery, plugs, plug wires. Still has a misfire if it is on for a while.

I've been reading a lot on the ignition coil and the symptoms sound similar to what my f20b is encountering. I am going to change the ignition coil today and I will let you know how that goes.

Thanks 2fast4u831 , that makes me feel better about getting the engine.
For those having misfires, I'm wondering if it could be caused by having the H22 head gasket with the 87mm bore. If you bought the engine from someplace other then an importer it may have been replaced with the wrong part. Just a thought.

ok this misfire sucks ***

I can not pin it down and i need my car to pass emissions, spark is good, dizzy is new, ignition coil new,new plugs wires, new fuel filter, new injectors, compression in all 4 good, pulled each plug and injector connector looking for change all had drop in rpm adjusted valves, new gas in car, no coolant leaking or low coolant/oil, egr not sticking open iacv new, no vac leak after spraying 2 cans of carb cleaner, new o2 sensor, new coolant sensors.

I dont believe the cat is plugged up because no cel for cat and the exhaust does not seem restricted can there be any thing else? I am thinking wiring but i had a really good shop do that for me so im at a loss

and no i didnt just throw parts at it alot i bought before i started the swap

Can I get a clear answer on what oil pan gasket is used on this motor. I replaced the oil pan with a f23 one as it appears this is the correct one. But I am getting mixed information on the oil pan gasket? I also see half moon ones. Please help.

Depends upon what all the overhaul kit comes with. 'h22a' is ambiguous. Cause it could mean either a 1998+ h22a4, or a pre 1998 h22.

You'll need to verify which year your f20b is. A type S h22 will have different rod bearings and different piston rings.

I know this is an old thread but figured Id start here.

I have been reading through this thread and am confused as what I went with seems a little different than what most people have done, so Ill ask. I swapped the F20b in my 90 Prelude. I am at the end stages of the swap. I am running a chipped P28 with a base map for the F20b. I went with a Wireworx tuck harness for the swap, which I believe was more intended for an H swap rather than the F20b. Everything plugged in with the exception of the injector plugs, which I switched the with he OEM F20b plugs. Also the VTEC solenoid, which I just got an H22a4 solenoid and used it instead of swapping more plugs. I have the plug for the distributor with an extra on my harness that isnt on the stock distributor. From that I have read this is for the tach and ignitor power correct?

So my question is will I have to swap distributor with one with 2 plugs, or am I able to wire those into the single plug for the stock dizzy. Also, I am getting fuel to the rail but it seems my injectors arent pulsing, could it be because I switched the injector plugs and maybe they are different? Should I swap back?

Are you running the resistor on the injectors or the "dead plug" I'm ***** deep in swapping a 99' f20b into my 93 cb7 and didn't even realize for like 2 weeks that the accord (being a 2.2L) comes stock with the resistor so I'm gonna try to use mine and see what happens.

Here to confirm the H22A4 head gasket DOES work. H22A4 gasket is completely identical to the OEM F20B head gasket with the exception of the bores. The bore is negligibly larger on the H22A4 and won't cause any issues unless you're running crazy boost or something like that. So if you're in a jam and don't feel like spending $150+ on an OEM F20B head gasket, you'll be fine with the H22A4.
