D15B2 <-> D15Z1 engine block interchange or compatibility?
Hello Everyone.
First of all, I'm not sure if I am posting this thread in the correct section, but its the closest I could find since it says for questions involving swaps.
I have an ED series CRX HF, which I want to update with a VTEC-E motor from the Civic VX. I bought a rebuilt VX head complete with valves, intake manifold, etc. a while ago (technically, its a head from a D15Z1 motor.)
I also have a very rusty 91 CRX DX with auto trans here which blew a timing belt at 196,xxx miles, and I bought it cheap just for use as a parts car.
The CRX DX has what I think is the original D15B2 motor in it.
My question is - I'm wondering if its reasonable for me to pull the motor from the CRX before I take the remains to the recycling yard, and use the D15B2 block (rebuilt with fresh bearings, rings, pisons, etc) to mate with my rebuilt D15Z1 head?
I have heard before that most versions of the D15 motor from 88-95 use basically the same lower end design, and that it's the head where Honda did most of the modifications between the models. Is there any fundamental reason (such as head bolt patterns, dimensions, etc. ) why the D15B2 block would NOT work properly with my D15Z1 head?
