Re: Ask your H22 Questions Here
Your problem is not your wiring... it is the H22 ECU. ALL '97-01 Prelude ECU's have an immobilizer circuit inside them, and your '96 Prelude is not equipped with such a system. You need a way to bypass the immobilizer in the ECU, otherwise, the engine will never start.

Re: Ask your H22 Questions Here
Hey guys Im in need of some help. I recently just picked up a 96 hatch with a h22a swap. I was having trouble with the idle but I removed the thermo valve and cleaned it and everything else on the manifold. The car will start and idle perfect. After I drove it and then park it and let it idle it stutters then cel came on and it shut off. I tried to start it but it just turns over then tries to start and dies. If I let it sit for awhile it will start back up. What the heck is going on, also I'm new to the h-series motor.

Re: Ask your H22 Questions Here
Ok so I changed the plugs, helped my idle issue out but still doesn't want to start after its at operating temp. I did finally had a chance to read the cel which was 8 short blinks of the light. Looked it up and it said tdc sensor. Could this actually cause my intermittent starts? Anyone?
Re: Ask your H22 Questions Here
What's up guys I have a H22a and was wondering what pistons would be good for the frm sleeves. I want to go n/a making around 260hp. I've heard bad things about Mahale Gold pistons, and wanted to know are there any other aftermarket options for me to choose from.
Re: Ask your H22 Questions Here
What kind of bad things did you hear?
Re: Ask your H22 Questions Here
I'm looking into buying sleeves for my Jdm h22 block. My question is what is the diff between wet and dry sleeves? And they sell some with flanges and some without? Planning on running 20lbs on pump gas
F22 to H22 swap
Hi i recently purchased a 95 prelude with a F22 in it. I was wondering if anyone could help me out with what im going to need to do, if the trannys are compatible and possibly anything else i need. It be a great bit of help thanks
Re: Ask your H22 Questions Here
Hey so I have an f23a1 and I was just curious if there were any modifications you had to do in order for the h22 tranny to fit or does everything line up?

Re: Ask your H22 Questions Here
HOLLAxPEENxYO, I am not sure if you are still looking for an answer, but the Mahle pistons are an EXCELLENT choice. I am not sure where you would have heard otherwise. I have had a set in my engine for over ten years and it runs great. Unless you sleeve the block, there are limited choices... not just ANY piston will work. Other than the stock "Type S" piston, the Mahle is the only choice I am aware of that works with the stock FRM sleeve.

I was thinking about putting a H22A motor in my 1991 honda accord ex can I bolt up the transmission for my f22 motor to the h22 motor?
Re: Ask your H22 Questions Here
hi this is my first post here.
i have spend a lot of time searching about this but didn't get a answer.
I have a 1992 jdm h22a my question is can someone tell me if they have FRM cylinder sleeve.
i have had answer from ALL H ARE FRM to pre 94 h22a are iron sleeve. can someone confirmed this?
is there a way to tell if its frm or iron slevee by looking at the sleeve wall inside the block?

Re: Ask your H22 Questions Here
All H22 blocks are FRM sleeved... as well as the '92-96 H23 and the JDM/EDM H23 VTEC engines. The only block in the H22A style family with conventional steel liner sleeves is actually the little "H"... otherwise known as the F20B. It is a JDM/EDM engine that was created for Euro homologation racing.
Re: Ask your H22 Questions Here
Hello, so I have a question. I was reading an old thread I stumbled upon when searching about the m2u4 Transmission. I didn’t fully understand the discussion on the atts. But I did read that people didn’t seem to like this transmission and said it could not be swapped. But I didn’t get why it couldn’t . It that same thread it said to post if anyone heard of a successful swap. I just bought a 96 delSol a month ago. It has a H22a4 1500000 model engine which from what I read means it’s from a 98 prelude SH it is paired to a M2U4 transmission. The car runs very well and is very quick. However I know very little about the H series only prelude I ever owned was an 89 Si in high school. So I guess my question is there something wrong with this engine and transmission I should worry about ?
Re: Ask your H22 Questions Here
Here is a quote from the other thread.
Re: JDM H22 red top with m2u4 trans. Is this the 220 hp ver ? (Nick M)Nope it's m2u4. I found this on the web...
"The only H22 to avoid is from the Type SH Prelude. The brilliant torque distribution system (an electronically controlled box of clutches bolted to the block that Honda calls ATTS) replaces the intermediate shaft and its mounting bracket. The engine and transmission code to avoid is H22A4 and M2U4, respectively. Again, when someone actually swaps this in functionally, let us know."
Thanks,
Derek of JMI

Re: Ask your H22 Questions Here
The H22A4 comes in both the "Base" and "SH" versions and is found in the '97-01 Prelude. The sensor input required to control the ATTS style electronic differential is immense... as a matter of fact, there are more sensors and input/out connections for the ATTS system than all that are necessary to run the engine !!! There is also a separate computer to control this system. Could one install this system and integrate this immense amount of wiring, the extra controlling computer, the immobilizer system and the necessary components to support the OBD-2 emissions system of the factory P5M Prelude ECU ??? Sure. The real question is WHY ?!?!?
Again, ALL '97-01 Preludes have the H22A4 engine code. The 1 as the first digit of the 7-digit identifier code indicates it is a '97 model engine. I am not sure about the transmission code you have identified (M2U4), but it is easy enough to check visually to see what transmission you have. Look just under the intake runner closest to the LEFT side of the engine... closest to the cam gear/crank pulley end of the engine... if you don't see the oil filter right there, it isn't a SH engine/transmission combination. Also, the base engine will have a mid-shaft bolted to the back of the block meeting the left side of the transmission and the left axle. The "SH" engine will have a HUGE aluminum box bristling with sensors and solenoids and a tree of wiring instead of the plain shaft.

Re: Ask your H22 Questions Here
Were you asking me about wiring ??? If so, I apologize that I didn't see your post to respond. I can certainly help if you still need it. Feel free to PM me if you post and I don't respond right away... I am an old guy and I don't live on this site.
Re: Ask your H22 Questions Here
The M2U4 transmission which mine is was only available on the SH or the JDM Type S it is ATTS equipped. My engine is H22A4 the number below that is 1501158 which from my understanding means it came out of a 1997 Honda Prelude model SH. I am not trying to argue I just want to understand I am told this engine should not work in my car but I drove it yesterday. I am a crx/ civic guy I know nothing about preludes or this engine outside what I have been finding by googling and reading forums like this.
Re: Ask your H22 Questions Here
My car is a 1996 Honda Del Sol S model. Converted to VTEC model basically. The ecu used is a chipped p06 it’s running OBD1 has had nice new suspension installed and cat back exhaust. I am in Iowa if anyone knows a good mechanic who could tell me all that was done let me know as almost no one advertises engine swaps or import Tunning here Mainly for trucks.
Re: Ask your H22 Questions Here
My apologies for all the post in a row here is where I got my information about the engine code.
