Default Alternator compatibility? I mean the insides...

I've got 2 working alternators. The one currently installed (obd1) has started making an annoying whine, indicating the bearings are shot. Unfortunately, the other alternator has a different plug design (obd2).

I'm wondering if I can take the drive-end housing (with the good bearings) from the obd2 alternator and swap it into the obd1 alternator. Has anyone tried it?

I can swap the plugs, but I'm not sure what that entails. Just curious to know if the other method will work. If it does then I think it will actually be an easier fix than swapping plugs because you have to remove the drive-end housing just to get to the plugs anyway.

I hope that wasn't too confusing...

Thanks!
