Default '91 b16a...i've put 50K on it...maintenance?

Searched, found a coupla 1st gen b16 maintenance threads, but not in the vein of what i'm looking for.

The motor's supposed to be the same year as my car ('91) and was put in around March of 2001 (god knows how many miles were on it by the time i got it) I've personally put 50,000 miles on the odo w/out so much as a hiccup, really, and figure it's high-time for some maintenance.

The clutch, timing belt, water pump, etc. was all, of course, done at the time of the swap. Since then the only maintenance has been oil/tranny fluid changes, new plugs, a prelude fuel pump (thanx pat!) and i've replaced the fuel filter (BTW, the "low on gas" light in ef's blow!) but that's about it.

So, to make a rambling post even longer, what am i due for? Valve adjustment, checking major components, what? Any input would be appreciated. TIA!

BTW... for honda reliability. A 13 yr. old motor seeing 8K rpm daily in a car of the same age with 220,000+ on the chassis and all i have to worry about is changing gears and not getting pulled over

PS What kind of checkup/maintenance would a hi-mileage chassis need??

Sounds like you've done a good job so far in maintaining the health of the motor. Some things I'd look at include the thermostat, distributor cap and rotor, doing a valve adjustment, and maybe flushing the cooling system. As for the chassis, check the suspension bushings, check for any torn boots (tie rods, axles), what condition are your struts in? But like I mentioned earlier, sounds like you've been keeping up with the routine maintaince since you seem to have a trouble-free motor.

Thanx for the "hit-list" of suggestions, Redline130!

I'll use that list to do the inspection. Anyone else have anything to add to my check-up ??? High mileage motor & chassis??

To answer your question about struts, I got the car with Tokicos (the blue ones, not sure what that is??) and Eibachs. (dropping 1.5") Dunno how long they were on there before, but I've put about 93,000 on them myself. They still feel relatively good, IMO, but at high speed over bumpy, undulating roads (construction, back roads, etc.) it does tend to get a lil' floaty. Is that common/normal?

Also another concern regarding the struts/springs, I've got the heavier b-series in there, w/suspension designed for the stock car. It certainly appears to sit lower in the front now. Any problems there, or is it just gonna wear my fronts faster?

Again, TIA for any and all replies...will be doing the check-up and routine maintenance w/in a week or two.

Considering that you put 93K on the struts, I'd look into replacing them. As for having a B-series motor, I think it might be a matter of preference on how you like the ride of your car. After you replace your struts (if you do) see how the ride is, if it feels sloppy or too soft, then look into getting springs with stiffer rates. I think the springs made for your car is fine though. Main thing is to make sure that the alignment is proper and within spec.

I would say its getting near to being time for a new timing belt. thinks its in the ballpark of 64,000 miles that its due for replacement. Pump should be good. it should be done every second belt same with tensioner.

Thankx!

So what am i looking at price wise for timing belt / valve adjustment? Is it something I can do myself? I have a bad habit of f**king up these tedious little tasks on occasion(like valve adjustment). How much would a pro charge?

Could the timing belt go that extra 10-12K miles, or am i asking for it? Any experience?

BTW I wanted to get some good struts next time I need 'em and can't really afford to shell out now...what's a sure sign they're on the way out? Any tests i can try? They seem to be decent now, but i may have progressively gotten used to them getting progressively worse

Thanx 4 taking time to reply. Will be on it within the week.
