theft rate
i recently had my 2000 civic si stolen. now i am looking to buy a used s2000 with the money i get back from my return and some extra cash i have. the only problem i face is my father thinks because it is such a nice car it will get stolen too. i tried to explain to him why Si's get stolen cause of the almighty b16 . does anyone know how often s2000 really get stolen. i have never really heard, or read of one being stolen. anyone also know the theft rate of them in the tri-state area. please help

Re: theft rate (em1_sim0n)
there's been a couple of reports here and there.. but nothing to be majorly alarmed about...... we have more issues with people slashing the top and stealing the seats and radio from the car.....
we do have an immobilizer on the car so that makes it harder for people to steal unless they truely know what they are doing...

s2000 is harder to steal. If anything they get vandalized. Your alot safer with a s2k.
Where in NJ are you from? Im in south NJ.

you should be straight man. THe only thing that you should take caution is IF you do pick up a an S, they can find a way to your car by cutting the soft top and stealing the seats, speedometer, etc.

im in northern nj too, 20 min from the GWB and i just bought seat locks from s2ki.com. it makes it almost impossible to steal the seats (which are the main attraction for s2k theives besides the HIDs) its the best $60 ive spent.

Re: (jdm93cx)
i like them alot. i also bought the window decals to deter theives. the only way to remove them without the key is to grind them off. u cant get a vice grip on them cause its smooth and angled. if your top gets cut and seats stolen it is $8000+ in an insurance claim. and i think if they steal ur HIDs and radio too its $11000. pretty damn crazy prices. the seats are around $3-4k a piece, new from honda. this is what ive read from other people who have had theirs stolen. go on s2ki.com and search "seat locks" theres a bunch of threads on their and the inventor and seller is on there too.

Re: (orangebarius)
cant they just replace your ignition with the one they have and start up your car?
i also heard of people using tasers which shocks the car and drains the battery or something..

they can do a lot of things, but they only would if its worth it. the most valuable parts of the car are the seats and HIDs because they can be swapped into other cars. no other part on the car can be. so if you have the seats locked down, it may make the thief move onto to another car. any security measurement is meant to deter theives, not make the car unstealable. lets face it, if the theif has a tow truck, there presently is no security device out there that can stop him. you just make it harder and more annoying for them to steal so they hopefully go to another car instead.
