there are no true advantages to getting something you cant truly afford. ever.
Im glad you asked instead of just making the decision...
Honestly unless your making incredible bank(income) but at age 20 thats unlikely... your probably in debt for college.... or building a career from other methods so your starting at a lower salary...
Now you have to think... Do I make enough money... now... later.... will i still be happy paying for the car 3-6 years into the future?
how fast do you get bored of things? if u dont get bored of the car... will the job your working at now still be satisfying to you for the next couple years? its not always easy to replace a job when you have a car bill every month....
honestly the s2k is a fun car... but its not fun when your driving a car thats not really yours till its paid off... it makes modding it a bad idea until your much further into the payments and are hopefully generating more income.

Re: (S@nt0s)
^^^^ I make the same but work 30+ and then school. The payments suck and I only ended up borrowing 9k. If you have take out the whole 16k you payments will be 350-400 a month.

Re: (j nepo)
20Yrs old here....
$390 Dollar Payment.... that's on a $21,000 Loan.
$320 Dollar Insurance.... No not because of points, but because I am located in Arizona. If I was to mave back to Boston I was quoted only $180 a month.
Income wise... Well I don't know it's month to month I am a Loan officer and since market crashed I went from 75k a yr down to 30k a yr. I tightened up my spendings and outgoing expenses by eating at home and not going out unless I really want to. I can afford everything just fine with 30k a yr and couple hundred dollars go towards savings still.
Its a strugle on bad months but it's worth every penny. I went from H22 Prelude and so happy now.

I have a crazy amount of cars. One of them is a Honda S2000. I've had more trouble with the car than my others, but it does look good.

I have thought about one... I make less than you (with school), but i have next to no living expenses. IDK, it would be a fun car but i like racing too much and i can afford to break my civic.

I'm 19 yrs old...have an 01 that I bought for $15.5k w/51k miles...loan payment of $300 + $320 insurance payment (under my own insurance @ 19 in NY) . I work at least 30 hrs/week, plus school without any other expenses. I went from a 1999 Civic Si to the s2000. The positives of the s2000 are that it handles like a dream, looks amazing and the ladies love it . The only downside would be maintenance, modifications or anything that may go wrong with the car is not as cheap as a civic. The bottom line is if you want something you need to work hard for it, not just for a car but for anything you need/want in life. I hope you make the right decision that fits your situation. Good luck.

30 hrs/week and school? That's pretty crazy...are you a full time student? What kind of grades are you getting? How much do you make? Just wondering.

Re: Is a S2000 really worth it? (koji126)
I spent more than I should have but I put $11k down and financed almost as much. I was making $11 and hour over the summer working 45 hours a week with no bills. Right now I have a $200 payment and $120 for insurance, no other bills. Technically I have no income, but I am getting $250 a month for food which is 2x what I need and am selling a lot of parts on ebay. I also still have my CRX so I do have a safety net. I will probably get a job next semester but for now I am just hanging out, its my first semester at a 4 year college and I want to enjoy myself before plunging back in to the loaded schedule bullshit I have been in for 4 years. I am 21 in april
