Power steering problem, eps light NOT on
Hey guys, got my safety inspection done today. And it failed due to the power steering not working properly. They say it engages some times and some times not. And when it was parked, i cranked the wheel a little, and the ets cranked it all the way electronically. Has anyone else had this problem or any one come across it? I don't want to spend $1000 on a new steering rack. The technician also said it might just need an update, also i have no CEL and no warning lights showing. I told him it might be cause of the cold (minus 20 celcius up here today). What do you guys think?

Re: Power steering problem, eps light NOT on
hmm not sure on what the issue is since it steers on its own? but for the "it works some times and it doesn't some times" i'm assuming that you meant that it's not as smooth as it should be. If that's the case, you can try getting by with inflating the tires a bit more. Less contact patch = less drag. But with that second issue where it only works some times, I would just replace the EPS unit and work my way down. They shouldn't be too expensive considering every wrecked S2000 will have one in tact, and up until now I've never heard of another one failing.

I know my power steering started acting up when my alternator started to go out. When the car is running do you dash lights or cabin lights pulse at all?

Oh yeah that too, and you can raise idle a bit too if that's permitted to keep the electrical draw steady at idle. (sorry for the crude terminology, it's the morning and my better vocabulary escapes me)

so after two hours of diagnosing (if thats a real word), they tell me its the eps control unit/computer. Which apparently costs $1200, $600 on Majestic. There scanner showed nothing, just did a billion tests and it said to replace the unit with a known working one and run more tests...

That is the part we were talking about, save some money though and get one out of a wrecked S they are much cheaper that way.

sorry for the late reply, i went back to honda, and they said it was still not working properly. But i don't notice any problems, everything works fine, its super responsive like its suppose to be and doesn't pull. They probably just wanted more money out of me
