hollow metallic sound when engine cold and on 1st/2nd/3rd gears after first oil change
I had my first oil change a few hundred miles ago on my 06. Ever since then, I notice a hollow metallic sound when the engine is cold and I am accelerating on 1st/2nd/3rd gears, changing gear at about 3000 rpm. (I don't notice it as much on the upper three gears.)
I did a search and there was a mention about another car having a hollow metallic sound issue but there was no conclusive answer on that thread. And I didn't have this issue before my first oil change.
The hollow metallic sound disappears when the engine is warm and so far the engine response and car handling behave just the same. What could this sound/noise be? Anybody knows? Thanks.

Just guessing here but what gas are you using? The car manual says you can get a metallic sound when you use anything but premium.
Did you baby it too much during break in? Maybe the tolerances are still too tight and car is not yet fully broken in.
Oh and what oil are you using? It sounds like it could be too thin....the car came with a special oil for break in thats probably pretty sludgy compared to what your using now
Thats all I can think of.

Always used 91 octane gasoline. Definitely babied for the first 600 miles and then driven "normally" since then (normally here is defined as several VTEC engagements per week). I had the oil change done by the dealer at 5800 miles and they claimed that they used a special type of 10W30, the detergent 10W30 though I have no way of knowing. The sound/noise happens during accelerations not during shifting - shifting is smooth.
And yes, the transmission grinds going from 1st to 2nd gear when the engine is cold just like all manual transmission Hondas I have ever had. I have learned to accept it. *sigh*

i lack experience w/ an S2000, but i dont think thats a good sign. my DA with 170K on the stock trans doesnt grind from first to second even with no warm up...

The S2000 was my first new Honda, all the other Hondas I have had were bought used. Maybe I should have bought a used one.
Actually is not that bad of a grind, more like a slight "clack". All of my manual transmission Hondas had this peculiarity (Accord, Civic, Integra). I thought it was a signature Honda transmission. But come to think of it my Integra was probably the least affected. For sure I didn't have this issue with my Ford but the Ford did have many other issues.

Yeah thats normal for the s. When cold it will do this. I even have a paper saying its normal from honda.

Make sure you document the change with your service writer at your dealer in case you have future problems. Most s2000's are a bit noisey on cold starts until they warm up.
