i decided to vent my hood to help keep the car cool on track.
i picked up a spare hood to do the vents. i'll put the stock hood back on for the winter if i don't get lazy but i really don't drive the car in the snow.

I want a spare hood to do this mod.. how'd u manage to cut it w/o warping the aluminum or scratching the surrounding paint?

we used an air saw and then filed it down... worked great...

i used an air saw and cut from underneath. then finish the edge with a rotary tool and sand paper block.

pretty much everything i used for the project are in the pics.

the grills are tucked between the hood support frame and i used high temp silicon sealant to hold the grills in place.

not really my idea. this has been done on s2k for a long time.

i haven't done any data logging but it should function just like any aftermarket vented hood.

yeah we used high temp silicone as well... holds the grills nice and tight...

Awesome, but I'll need to find a better way to attach the grills, the silicone looks cheap...

I prop my hood open @ car shows, and would be embarrassed to have that shown (no offense).

anyone who's serious about showing their car is not going to cut their hood (no offense)

i could have used screws or rivets to attach it but i was in a hurry to get it done on for track the next day. i didn't want to rush on a permanent solution.

i used clear silicone... and i put a small bead of it on the hood itself and ran it along the edge of each cut out... then i put the grills in place... ill take a pic of mine when i get a chance...

Disagree...I've seen a few guys who have used clips that looked pretty professional.

Alot of vented hoods in car shows, and for track days...as it's functional, which is (hopefully) the reason you did it...

Definite props for the work...come up with a more permanent solution and it will be an A++

i've also seen people who use clips to wedge the grill in place. although they look better, i definitely don't feel safe about them on the track as they could work loose from vibration. one of the reason i use high temp silicon is that it could resist vibration. the silicon works very well and i'm unmotivated to find a better solution since i don't really care what it looks like under the hood. for me, everything under the hood is for function.

Did you make your own template for the outline or freehand it? This is something I've been wanting to do for awhile just gotta find the time to get over to the hobby shop to do it. that and order some mesh
