Re: best turbo setup for a AP1
the one that gives you the amount of power you want with the soonest powerband.
full race type mani + GT3582R is a popular choice i think. very reliable when tuned and the numbers are quite impressive.

Re: best turbo setup for a AP1
i wouldn't go off of turbo-kits.com. there are much better kits out there like inlinepro turbo kits
http://www.inlinepro.com/s1/
or Mase turbo kit

I'd say make a project and build a custom kit to what you want. I may do the same only to save a few bux and also build it to my specifications.

Re: best turbo setup for a AP1
if you want to create another 70-85whp, then a stage one turbo kit would be simple. just put your own kit together with the appropiate turbo. the rest of the kit should be the regular stuff you need for a complete kit, but quality parts. however, on the fuel side, keep it simple so that you can pass emissions(if that is necessary). just recommend fuel pump, missing link and fmu. mine runs perfect air/fuels at wide open throttle at 7psi. i drive it daily and with no check engine lights.

An inline pro log mani is a good setup depending on what he is looking for. I have their log setup and the car can easily run into the 11's and low 12's with 450-500hp.

Re: best turbo setup for a AP1
We have a full kit hitting shelves come 1st of the year
Same manifold, downpipe, dumptube combo as seen on our TA S2000 and several other vehicles on the boards
We offer several large and small frame variants as far as turbo choice

Re: best turbo setup for a AP1
figure out how much power you want first or how fast you want to go, then size everything from that. if you want 300whp then you dont need an expensive manifold and externally gated turbo. most people who ask about what turbo kit is the best have never driven a fast car to begin with and 300-350whp willmake them crap themselves. i make manifolds for a living but i use a cast manifold on my own personal car because that is all that is needed for what i do. i would recomend this list as a basic starting point:
300-350whp, high to low 12s quartermile
stock engine, cast/log manifold, big gt28 or small gt30 turbo all can be internally gated, basic intercooler and exhaust setup, 550cc injectors, 255 pump, some sort of ecu.
350-450whp, mid to high 11s
stock engine (possibly change the headgasket and head studs), good clutch, basic tubular manifold, big gt30 will do 450 but if you ever want more then id recomend a small gt35 both externally gated, 750cc or bigger injectors, 255 pump, ecu, 3" exhaust.
450-650whp, mid 11s to mid 10s
basic engine build (sleeves, pistons, rods, studs, head gasket) twinplate clutch, basic manifold as long as it can fit the turbo you want, big gt35, gt37, gt40 etc, one large or twin smaller external gates, 1000cc or larger injectors, twin 255`s, ecu. probably gonna have to think about upgrading the intercooler setup around 650hp.
650+ 10s and faster
built engine, twinplate, probably gonna have to upgrade the rearend, custom manifold to fit large turbo, gt40 and bigger, good wastegate setup, 1600cc or larger injectors, twin 255`s, twin bosche pumps, a1000 etc for fuel. 3.5" exhaust or larger, big intercooler setup, ecu.
obviously there are exceptions to this, people will say things like "i made 700hp with one 255, or i made 700hp with 1000cc injectors" etc. but this is keeping everything in its most efficiency and playing it safe and reliable.

Why gt turbos? those are old school now! Its all about the journal bearing and new ball bearing turbos that dont need to be water cooled.

Re: best turbo setup for a AP1
buy a 3mm headgasket, inlinpro sidewinder manifold (sick *** manifold!!!) and a gt40r (forget the gt30 35 37s everyone got those, gotta be different) and buy ur intercooler/bov/wastegte/kpro or ems/etc. its gona cost but think of it as a monthly payment, one part at a time! ur gona make insane power with that!!!!
greddy is good if u want a usuable power band and everyday driving. it will pass emission not like the other kits, if ur worried about emissions. ive seen some greddy kits dyno at 270hp.....fail.
btw: better upgrade ur rear end!

Re: best turbo setup for a AP1
why whouldnt u listen to that? we both agreed about not gettin greddys and not to get log and internal wastegated turbos. wats wrong with that set up?sounds pretty basic to me. if u dont like the 40r go 30r then. but still get the manifold, its bad ***. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3414/...b89ec3bc_b.jpg

Go with a turbo like this or a new precision with a billet wheel. Garret is also coming out the GTX wheel and its similar to the precision.
