I thought the AP1 to AP2 headlight swap was basically plug and play, but unfortunately realized that the blinker sockets are different, ballast extension cables costs a kidney etc.

The one thing that was new to me, is that the auto level motors are different between the AP1 and AP2. The AP1 uses same level adjusters that are found from 90 to 00 Corollas, when the AP2 uses same level adjusters that RAV4 has.

My first thought and solution was to get AP2 adjusters working with AP1 car. No-go. The circuit is different. I reverse engineered the PCB and found the correct wiring order. They "kind of work" with the AP1, but they wont work correctly.

Next thing was to remove the AP1 and AP2 adjusters. I first thought that they are direct swap. But AP2 headlight housing hole is 1mm smaller than the AP1 and also even though the adjuster grooves look the same, there are some slight differences.

So, how to make it work? Well, it would be easier to modify the headlight housing hole, but then your headlights would be full of that plastic **** that would be impossible to remove.

Heres how you need to modify AP1 adjusters to make them fit to AP2 lights:

First things first. You need to turn the adjuster gears angle a little on a left side headlight.

Just pop out the cover and turn it a little, so it matches to the car (so you can adjust them from the holes that are in the engine bay). No need to do this in the right side of the car:



Then you need to sand some stuff out from the adjuster, so you can press and turn lock it:
