Looking to get a Ruckus
Hi there guys and girls/fellow Ruckus/Honda owners.
I live in New York and I thought a Ruckus would be a fun way to get around town and to keep the mileage off of my 2000 Civic Si turbo.
I have a bunch of beginners questions about the Ruckus
1)Do I need any special type of license?
2)Is registration and insurance costly?
3)Must I wear a helmet?
4)How is the average MPG?
5)Do I need to mix oil and gas to create the correct fuel?
6)Overall, how is this scooter?(In terms of fun/reliability/etc)
7)Where can I buy one?
8)Is this something you buy out or can you make payments on it?
Thanks in advance!!!!

Let me give it a shot.....
1)Do I need any special type of license?
2)Is registration and insurance costly?
3)Must I wear a helmet?
4)How is the average MPG?
5)Do I need to mix oil and gas to create the correct fuel?

1)Do I need any special type of license?- Check with your local DMV on this.. Not sure about NY...In CA we need a motorcycle M1 license or permit.
2)Is registration and insurance costly?- I have 4 of them and my insurance for liability only is about $50 a year on each of them. Registration seems high to me at like $80 ish a year
3)Must I wear a helmet?- Check your local laws, I would wear one even if not neccessary just to be safe.
4)How is the average MPG?- stock will get close to 100+ every tank, use 87 octane gas also.
5)Do I need to mix oil and gas to create the correct fuel?- No, not on 4 stroke scooter. Just gas it and go.
6)Overall, how is this scooter?(In terms of fun/reliability/etc)- depends on what you want it for. If you want to haul *** around the town, this scooter isn't for you. If you want to get great mileage and it doesn't matter how fast you go then it is a great scooter and actually very fun to ride. They are also VERY reliable. I have never had an issue with a stock bike. As long as you maintain it well with oil changes ever 500-700 miles it will last forever. I have put over 10k miles on my bikes and never had any issues.
7)Where can I buy one?- Honda dealer, craiglist, totalruckus.com
8)Is this something you buy out or can you make payments on it?- If you buy from Honda you can finance it or buy it outright.

Re: Looking to get a Ruckus
Where in New York are you from?
Theres a Honda Motorcycle dealer in Westbury which is where I got mine
- You definitely need a helmet.
-Not to sure about the license part
-Its a very fun experience, doesn't really move too fast but handles great
-Draws a lot of attention
-I pay 200 a year for insurance though I heard that I can get it cheaper
-Only down side to it, is not many people here have them so I ride alone a lot which can get a little boring but I still enjoy it. I think the scene is going to start to grow out here a little more though, by that time my **** should be all tricked out...
Good Luck

Re: Looking to get a Ruckus
If your a regular in the Nassau area pm me if you get one i'm always down for a ride. At that bike up for sale for 3500 isnt a bad deal at all. Those swaps alone with labor, harness and everything alone is like 2k...

Re: Looking to get a Ruckus
Ny requires a mc license you can use the ruck to take the road test
insurance is required about 200 bux for full coverage
needed if you finance
you can buy at a honda dealer and finance
NY requires a helmet
no mixing gas
and believe me its not gonna stay stock if your in the honda game. its worse than cars to many aftermarket goodies and 40-45 mph is not gonna keep you happy.
