Vtec not kicking in? why?
OK, so i checked my oil saw it was low, put some in drove it, checked it again after the drive. Noticed it was overfilled a good 1.5/2 mm on the dipstick. I planned on draining some out the next day, but forgot about it and picked someone up from the airport. as i was driving there my check engine light suddenly blinked on and i gave it no thought. Now every time i get in the high RPMs my Vtec does not activate. I believe that too much oil pressure ruined my Vtec solenoid, or maybe blew an O ring somewhere on the Vtec controller. The model is a 1996 JDM H22A from a Honda Prelude. Has roughly 70k on motor, and mostly stock internals. all of this is in a 1993 Civic Hatchback. Any feedback of similar problems would be great. I took it to the honda delearship, but they just told me what I could do myself. Checked codes ( by the way it was throwing a 22 code, or, some thing to do with all wheel steering control he said) im going to check coded myself tomorrow and post them for sure thanks.

Code 22 is the vtec pressure switch you should reset your computer by taking the radio fuse out and taking the battery negative cable off for 15 sec and put it back let me know if vtec works again.

As previously posted, either your Vtec pressure switch went bad, or you may need to clean your Vtec solenoid. The solenoid screen gets pretty built up with junk over time so remove the unit, carefully pull out the screen/seal and spray it with carb cleaner - or just replace the seal.
Over-filling won't cause your Vtec solenoid to fail.

Re: Vtec not kicking in? why?
ok, another thing i didn't mention that may be a culprit is i just installed a 500W amp and 1800W sub, but idk if that would cause it, i grounded it to the car right and hooked it up. I still think it has something to do with me overfilling the oil. im going to run a code test in a sec ill post my results. thanks for your help guys.

Re: Vtec not kicking in? why?
found my problem. the sensor hooked to the vtec module had a wire that was completely dislodged from the female side of the connector. Now i need the connector. went to stokes Honda to see, the ******* tells me i would have to buy the whole wire harness. those guys at that dealership a stupid. First he tells me it was all wheel steering problem, then says "i cant touch it its too modified" obviously they didn't even look at anything even though they said they did. guess i just overlooked it the first time though... well anyways I need the female connector from the wiring harness. if anyone has one let me know i can PayPal or something. thanks

Re: Vtec not kicking in? why?
Fixed the Vtec. just use a voltometer and checked which wire was throwing out volts, and made sure to hook up spliced connector from junk yard. Had to pay $2.00 to get in junk yard, but got 4 connectors, just in case. now my v tec works. thanks everyone for their input.
