Default Tranny Fluid ??s

i need some advice on tranny fluid ... please give me some suggestions

i have heard good things about GM Synchromesh MTF

i have heard good things about Red Line MTF

i have heard that for some Hondas, OEM MTF is best

has anyone tried tranny additives?? ... like Z-Max?

how often are you supposed to change tranny fluid (if you track your car?) ... do u change like engine oil?? ... once a year??

should you put fresh stuff in before storing for winter??

what about ATTS ... i know it uses ATF, but should i use OEM, Redline, or something else??

thanks in advance for your help!!

gm synchromesh is by far the best choice for tranny fluids. honda advises either every 15k/30k. but i change it every 2nd oil change just to be on the safe side.

yeah I agree about the Sychromesh. If your not racing then I would change it every 30k miles or so. If you are then a lot more often. I've heard bad things about the redline stuff though. Heard it breaks down too fast so you would have to change that a lot more often

i use oem fluid but its really just 5w-30, just a matter of personal preference IMO

i used z-max for my eng oil and fuel system. there tranny additive is for automatics. Also after using z-max i heard the lubricant (linkite) can break down your seals. but i haven't had any problems. i've only ran it once though.

i change my tranny fluid every 15-20k miles, but if you race i would do it more often to be on the safe side. also when storing it i wouldn't change it before hand. if you are just going to change when it comes out of storage. in the military when we preserve something (i.e. storage), we drain all the fluids.

thx for all the advice so far ... why do u drain everything before storing?? ... i heard you should keep your gas tank full before storing so that you don't develop any (surface) rust in your tank ... i know the tranny is aluminum, but still, wouldn't it be better to have it full of fresh fluid??

what about Lucas Tranny Fluid Stabilizer?? ... any comments??
