Timing belt tensioner problems

Timing belt tensioner problems
I just had the timing belt tensioner replaced for the SECOND TIME!!! Is this a typical problem I'm going to have to deal with or is it just bad luck? thanks for any imputs...

this is not a normal problem. do you have an auto or manual tensioner? people will recommend converting to the manual if you have an auto, but honda has recently developed a new auto tensioner which is less prone to breaking tha nthe previous design.

I just replaced mine. But it shouldnt go out within 2 yrs (2) of them that is. have you taken it to honda and ask them why it went out?

i heard it from a tech at honda. the guy also happens to be a close friend, so i trust him. he has never pulled my leg before.

the parts for my manual tensioner at a junk yard was less than 1/5th the cost of a new autotensioner. I had an autotensioner fail on me in less than 2 weeks.

just convert to a manual tensioner, i bought all new h23 manual tensioner parts, wasn't too pricey, better that frying the motor from a failed auto slippage.
and I am not so sure about the "New tensioner" ask your "close" friend where he heard that

so is this conversion something my normal mechanic can do or do i have to take it to a performance shop? and how long does it usually take to do it?

yep h23 already rocks the manual, I didn't find it to be hard at all, of course my motor was out, i would deem it very hard to do with the motor in (inside a civic) getting proper tension with the manual 1 took a couple trys, it was either too much or not enough, but once you see the manual vs the auto 1 in person you should see it won't be that hard, most of the rotating mass, balance shaft crap was removed while i was at it.
my friends owns a race shop, and has a 600hp lude, before reaching those #'s his motor crumbled twice from an auto tensioner failing. . .
