Speedometer Problem....bad VSS?
My speedometer has been acting up recently. Sometime while driving the speedometer will fall to zero and stay there. However, at other time it would pop back up to speed, but drop again a few moment later. At other time the speedo would totally not work at all when I start driving. If the speedo continue to not work for a few minutes the check engine light would come on.
So is this a Vehicle Speed Sensor VSS problem or can it be something else? If this is a VSS problme, where is the VSS located on a 92 2.3L MT Si?
Thank you!

be very careful while bolting it down(putting it back).. i have heard stories of people putting too much pressure in the bolts breaking whatever the sensor sits on.....

look directy under your shifter cables for a plug(where the shifter cables hook up to the tranny). to replace it, I would remove the cables, I had too, plus its easier. its not hard tho, and I got mine for 50 bucks...

if it was you vss you would get a cel because the ecu would not see a speed input
sounds more like a speedo head

those would be your shifter cables...it is MUCH easier to remove if you just unclip the cables from their mounts...

I notice a pattern. So it seem that the problem relate to temperature. When the temp is really hot outside or the engine is fully warmed up I don't have a problem. However the last two days been a little cooler and the speedo would not work until the car get fully warmed up. Today was hot and the speedo worked fine again. What might be wrong with the vss that make temperature a factor?
