Rod Knock?

Rod Knock?
So back in january I got a knocking noise in my h23 vtec and parked the car. I decided to drain the oil and begin the diagnosis before it gets trailered to my shop. After draining the oil I didnt find a single flake of metal. I checked the vtec solenoid filter and no metal there either. Im gonna drop the pan after work today and see if its settled in the pan but if I find no metal there either is it still rod knock or is it wrist pin knock? Its knocking even at idle cold or warm so if it was a bad bearing you would think a ton of metal would be coming out. Thoughts?

Re: Rod Knock?
metal flakes don't necessarily need to be ginormous chunks. they can be smaller than paint flake. when you drain the oil, shine a flashlight into the oil, or move it around in direct sunlight. if it looks like a heavy metalflake paint, that could be bearing material that slowly wore out.
the knocking could also be balance shafts, or piston slap

Re: Rod Knock?
Did you figure it out? Mine had a knock sound when revved up or on deceleration. It turned out to be a loose flywheel due to bolts backing out. In the process of a blue top swap now.
