Default Prelude overheat issue

Buddy of mine asked me to get his car to dd status,

01 prelude
h22 motor 200k
5 speed

maintenance unknown

The car has no heat (plugged heater core? cooling system fix a leak crap?)
the car will sit and idle all day but lopes (iacv? )
will only drive 5 miles before overheating

I am assuming heater core is plugged, so may be the radiator,

Going to start by flushing the radiator/cooling system, replace thermostat and then?

anyone have similar issues that would care to toss in their $.02

The heater system bypasses the cooling system. It won't cause the system to overheat at all.

Idle the car and check to be sure the lower hose starts getting hot before the car overheats. If it stays cold your issue is the thermostat is bad and is sticking closed. The reason for this is that it's not a Honda OEM thermostat which will simply open and stay open when it goes bad which will not cause your car to overheat, it will just run colder.

If the lower hose does get hot make sure the fans come on. If not, then your issue lies in that system. Report back.
