Prelude compatability INJECTORS, DISTRIBUTOR, ECU's
Ok here is the information i have learned and found here on Honda tech. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
97 plus ECU needs a 97 plus dizzy and injectors(290cc injectors, "without resistor box")
96 ecu needs 345cc injectors"with resistor box" and a matching 1996 only Distributor
Right now I have a set of h23 injectors(240cc "with resistor box")that came out of my 1996 non vtec prelude and I also have a set of 2000 prelude 290cc injectors"without resistor box"
I also just purchased a 1996 obd2 ECU that I'm assuming is set up for 345cc injecotrs"with resistor box" and need to know this for sure and I also need to know if I need to purchase a 1996 obd2 Distributor to match the ECU or will either one of my H23 non vtec distributor or my 2000 H22a4 distributor work with my 1996 ECU.
Man I wish I knew what the immobilzer grounded when activated by the chip in the key so I could just wire around the dang thing. This car is becoming a pain in the ***.
Does anyone know any other walls I'm going to hit with this swap some I'll atlease be kinda ready for it

Re: Prelude compatability INJECTORS, DISTRIBUTOR, ECU's (Styler93GSX)
If the injectors ran in a car that had a resistor box then you need one. the ecu doesnt matter about the resister. what does matter is the size of the injectors.
(IE 92-96 h22 or h23 injectors need a resistor )(97+ injectors dont need a resistor box)
if you run injectors that need a resistor with out one they will burn out. if you run injectors that dont need a resistor with one they wont work.
If you run the wrong size it will just run rich or lean.
I would say use the h22 p13 the 96 ecu. with 345's and the resistor box.
You can use the h23 dizzy.
If you get into a jam about injectors "1g DSM Turbo Automatic 380cc" yeah there a little big but you can maybe tune them out with a vafc or something.
about the immobilizer wont the 96 ecu fix that problem? maybe?
hope this helps

Re: Prelude compatability INJECTORS, DISTRIBUTOR, ECU's (kulrevon)
Crap...I'm switching from my f22a 92' Prelude to a h22a engine and i have everything that i need well i thought until now. I bought an intake manifold and it came with 290cc 5th gen injectors so i bought the 345cc ones off my man AndyD and now...im worried my existing f22a harness with not do the trick. How the hell would i wire the resistor box if i dont have one and where would i obtain this magical box?

doesnt the 92 prelude wether an f22 or not have the resister on there. use the f22 harness and modify it. you are going to want to run 345s and you will need an h22/h23 dizzy the f does not fit.

Ok well i have the 345cc's and i have the h22a distributor as well...thats all on the engine already. I guess i have to wire in this resistor box because im 70% sure my f22a didnt have one. Eww....

i have mixed and matched obd1 vs obd2 dizzys before as long as you re arange the wiring connector so it plugs into what ever harness your using..
you should be able to use the h23 distributor no problem.

hey shinobi.
92 preludes f22 have the resistor if yours doesnt someone did some wiring. not sure why? upper right hand side or the engine bay by the brake and clutch master cylinder should be there green? plug.

Alot of good information in this page. You guys have answered my questions and they were quick and to the point. I think I will be able to get this thing started today. Although for right now since I don't have injectors or my ecu(in the mail). I'm just gonna wire up the motor as if it were an H23. When I get my ECU all I'll have to do is add the ECU, swap out to 345 injectors, and wire up vtec.
Does anyone have a pinout of both a pinout for a 1996 vtec ecu and a 1996 h23 powered car off hand. I need to figure out which pins I need to switch

If my 92 lude already has the resistor than I am saved. Doing a swap from starting with just the h22 block was a bother. I mean...i got it for like $500 shipped though....

Thats a pretty good price on your block. Good luck with your swap.

Re: Prelude compatability INJECTORS, DISTRIBUTOR, ECU's (Styler93GSX)
Alright I figured out a few more things on the swap.
1. You need to use the H23 wiring harness
2. You need to use the H23 Knock sensor. Or if one can't be had change out the plug on the h23 wiring harness
4. You need to use the H23 alternator, the plug is different one is round and one is square
5. If power steering wants to be kept use the H23 PS stuff but the bracket needs to be modified. take a cut off wheel and cut off some of the back of the bracket(like an ear looking peace thats sticks above the mounting surface inbetween the bracket and the block) then cut about a 1/2 inch off the bottom and your good to go takes about 10 minutes if you have a good air compressore.
6. External coil (3) wires need to be extended about 4 inches
As of right now I'm going to use the h23 injectors, h23 dizzy, h23 ECU and drive it that way till my 1996 ECU obd2 gets here, and I can buy some obd1 injectors 345cc for some reason they still used a resistor box in the 1996 model car or the same as obd1 345cc injectors

Re: Prelude compatability INJECTORS, DISTRIBUTOR, ECU's (prelittlelude)
I can do that. I have two complete cars right now. I have a 1996 car that had a cracked crank but the body was really good condition. I bought a 2000 Prelude for the motor swap(this car was rearended). I am trying to make the 1996 prelude a complete drivable car with the H22a4 in it.
