If you search this forum for Helms, you'll find a link to some site that allows you to download the Helms manual for free. In the manual is everything you wanted to know, including an illustration of the tranny fill hole.

oil fill hole isnt a regular hole w/dipstick in it. its a plug. i dont remember where exactly it is though, sorry. you will need a pump from autozone that cost $12.00 or so, b/c you will need to fill it straight on.

honda-tech doesnt have evrything unfortunatly
and u do not need a pump or anything...i do all my tranny fluid change with a tube/funnel from the engine bay to the fill hole...works best if u remove the intake imo...looking to do a write up next time I change it

if you can find a diagram labeled with the breather u can fill the trans through that too. the downside is that it takes forever that way and isnt the "proper" way to do it.

Or grab a 90w gear oil bottle that has a fine pointed tip. Cut the tip to fit the breather, pour in MTF and use the gear oil bottle to fill the gearbox from the filler. I use 2 bottles of Honda MTF.

I dunno why no one else seems to do this... but I always use the reverse switch hole on the top of the transmission. It is waaaay easier than trying to use the fill hole, and it fills very quickly because the breather is still open to allow air to escape. The intention of the fill hole is to allow excess oil to drain out (as to not overfill the transmission) but if the car is on an uneven surface it will pour out anyways. Makes more sense to use the recommended of amount MTF through the top, vs letting it spill out the side. You'll need a 19mm wrench and a small funnel.
Handy pic of some guy pointing at the H-series reverse switch..

^ can you overfill the tranny?
so if you do it threw that reverse switch hole you dont want to put a lot in there to where its coming out?
what if you wanted to fill it threw there just to top off because you think you may have a tranny leak and need more fluid?

Tranny fluid only gets filled to the (fill) bolt hole. The "fill" bolt should get pulled out. Car should be on a level surface. White sol has a good sugestion to fill tranny fluid. The fluid level should sit just bellow the fill bolt hole (on a level surface). Using the proper volume using liquid measuring devices would be ideal though.

Re: Oil fill on h23 manual transmission?
this is the only pic I could really find. It is pretty simple to find. Sitting right ontop of the tranny pretty much under your air intake which you should remove while doing this. Its only two bolts. Don't, DO NOT, NEVER lose that "pin" that sticks outof the vss.

^^
True true, good point. I wash my engine bay before working on it, and the JDM engines I swap are all virtually spotless when I put them in.. so, again dirt is never a problem for me, but it would be wise to be careful not to contaminate the transmission fluid.
One reason I don't like to use the H22 VSS as suggested is that I've had foreign objects (like M6x1.00 bolts) sitting behind the VSS where you cannot see them. Then when you pull the VSS out, guess what is free to roll in.. Thank god for magnets..
