search, there is a lot of stuff here about this. synthetic is only truely benifital if you get it in the engine before 30,000. The older the motor you put it into, the more likely you are to damage the gaskets.
Instead, use a high milage, or some other sort of sythetic blend, it works wonders for many things.
Not that it really matters, btu I am a lube tech ( , always wanted to say that), and have worked at wonder lube for over a year, so I do know a few things about oil.

Re: non synthetic or synthetic (mattmw88)
from what i know first 20-40k engine is broken in depending on how harsh it is driven and by whom
but synthetic is not a good thing for a h22 if you have like 200k will just burn money away.. hondas are notorious for burning oil from the piston rings.
chances are if your car has over 150k its already burning a good eer i dunno 1l/month?
atleast thats the rate im burning on my h23 with 195km on it..
i've even added lucas to my reg 5-30 but still burning...
thinking of going to 10-30 but its now winter so dunno if its such a good idea since i live in canadah and its pretty cold here..
but id go with valvoline max life recomended to me by someone on here prob the next thing im sticking into my car
or even some other high milage oil..
if your in a warm climate you can go with a 10-30 but if in a cooler or colder id go with 5-30
of can try the 10-30 synthetic..
ps. you guys all using synthetic.. i know your mostly on Mobile 1
... anyone using other oils?
ie: AMS or the purple stuff?
and at what km's? and what blends? and hows it burning?
would love to hear any other ideas on good oils for a h22/h23 with over 180k..

Re: non synthetic or synthetic (577HondaPrelude)
ams oil 10w30
used to use mobil 1 10w30, but it only lasted about 2k b4 I could feel the horsepower/torque loss, so I switched. I change my ams oil @ 3k although I probably dont need to.
I reaally reccomend ppl that use Mobil 1 try something else.
synthetic is not good to use on a brand new car. petro oil helps new seals, seal up properly. after the first few oil changes u can use synth.
in addition, higher mileage motors tend to have sealing problems which can only be worsened with the use of synthetics.
