My lude's build-up... start 3/15/07
My lude... an 89 2.0si.... ultimately will be sitting pretty with the duceduce.
This thread will be dedicated to the planning of...and the processes of building my lude...getting it back to par...and making it the machine i want it to be.
As i go i will describe things i tried... do write ups if i feel they are necessary & if i can.....and i will incorporate as many pictures as my whorish little mind will permit.
My current project will be listed right below here....and as i finish them they will be added back into this original listing of things to do or i'll make a list of things done with.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The plans. (in no particular order)
- 90-91 tailight install
- 90-91 trunk install
- 90-91 side moulding install
- Install stock 90-91 wing ....remove center bracing
- 90-91 rear bumper install
- Accord lip onto the 90-91 rear bumper.
Test fitted the middle section
I had to remove a section to shorten the sides.
Taped the pcs. togeather and fiberglassed the seam in the back for a temporary hold.
Had to cut a slice....to let the lip bend around the corner more...the base of our bumpers is more square than the accords.
Held the lip in place and marked off where the mounting points were to drill holes...
Heres the driverside already attached.
All the OEM hardware on the lip was used again...i just had to drill necessary holes in the ludes bumper. THe 90-91 bumper does not have holes that work with it.
After they were all attached it looked pretty OEM.... im impressed with how it turned out... now i just need to plastic weld the seams were i spliced the lip togeather to shorten it.
[IMG][/IMG]
- Custom sidemarkers using 90-91 front bumper sidemarkers.
Held the housing up and marked off the required cuts.
Removed the mounting tabs...they were in the way...
Began cutting out the opening for the housing.
Removed obviously.
Housing test fitment, usually its better to trim smaller and make small adjustments...rather than cutting it out too big...like i did with the one.
Taped off the front too keep the fiberglass resin from seeping through.
Lay the fiberglass matte and let dry.
- Battery relocation - trunk.
- *****Remove all rust... New quarterpanels*****...
- Shave emblems & antenna
- Custom cupholder
Got a center console cupholder from an SUV in the junkyard...*
Figured out placement in the car.
Masked it off and took and marked off measurements.
Cut out the center section.
Tested the fitment.
Cut out slot for E-brake to fall into...& took some more measurements of cuts needed to clear the seats.
- Replace cheap ebay coilovers with Weapon-r's.
- Locate some Gladman PErformance strutbars or some other kind.
- Cut shifter w/ greddy ****.
- Finish refinishing the Online Performance front bumper and side skirts... & install.
- Fiberglass custom mirrors.... bomex/mugen or spoon-ish style...?
- Removable....Light scoop.....you'll see.
- Remove Engine..
-Clean up engine bay as much as possible... sand and rattle can...or respray it black.
- Buy some 15" polished rota's.....or chrome or black gsr blades.
- Front and rear swaybars....whiteline???
- Fiberglass Door Guage pod.... B4 passat pod...I had laying around.
Test fitted & realized the guages aim down too much...So i marked off the cuts i'd have to make to reposition the guage openings.
Cut out the guage openings.
Positioned the openings in prep for fiberglass.
Added the first layer of fiberglass.
& the second layer..
Sanded it down with a DA to get the basic shape i wanted.
Started adding some polyester filler...
And more...
Took it down with a DA again to smooth it out.
More to come...
- Sand, prep and repaint entire car.
- H22 swap,.....gather all parts necessary ...etc...
- Tint windows.
- Custom camera mount.
More will be added as i think of them....

Those door pods will be cool, till you punch one of them out making a sharp left one day!
Good luck on the project! Always good to see the transformation.

good luck on everything. how much time do you have to dedicate to this? just wondering to see how fast things will come together. More people shoudl do build-up threads. glad to see there are now 2 and they are for different cars (3rd, 4th gen)
someone do a 5th gen build-up

I had one before as my first car...and i loved everythign about it.... the styling, the handling and just the feel of the car.
So i knew one day i'd have to get another since my last one was totoalled...not my fault. by the way... if i had it my way id still have the car.
Heres my old one... and a few of my old cars...to give you a taste of my previous work. not that it was too envolved in most cases...
my old- 92 b18c swapped teg.

I have garage space....so its gonna be taken care of.

Re: My lude's build-up... start 3/15/07 (VTECepidemic)
Started figuring out how to make use of this pillar pod.... held it up and figured where it should be.... and drew where the cuts would be. So i could re-shape the pod.
Simply cut the opening out with a dremel....
Took the pod and figured out how i would need to angle the holes so they would be facing me more...
I taped them at the appropriate angles... and then took some tooth picks and hot glued the pcs. to the rest of the pod... this will hold them in place until i have time to fiberglass them and lay some filler on the surface.
Check back for more progress in a few days.

Re: (saikou)
thanks man...
I was actually suprised it turned out as well as it has...seeing how i didnt really have anything to go off of to install it.
other than the fact i heard its been done before....but everytime i see it done it was usually a hack job ...or it was actually molded to the bumper with fiberglass or plastic weld.
I personally like the "lip kit" look.

Thanks for the props fellas.
I do indeed like the sticky icky fiberglass.
and the H22 swap... will be happening almost last...
This build will prolly be happening for another year or so before its done.
I have limited cash flow so everything i'm doing for now is pretty much custom built or junk yard found.
